The findings suggest that treatment response to long-term tamsulosin therapy is heterogeneous and that approximately 1 in 3 older men who can tolerate an initial period off therapy may have minimal or no symptomatic benefit from continued treatment. Bauer emphasizes that N-of-1 deprescribing trials could provide a practical way to identify individual patients who may be appropriate candidates for discontinuing chronic alpha-blocker therapy while accounting for the substantial variability in treatment response.
