Running and weight lifting?

Do I need both? Is one going to be a detriment to the other? Lets say I want to build muscle, is running just going to make that harder? I was thinking about lifting 3 times a week and jogging around 2-3 miles on the off days.

To tone up, i think running would be fine in concert with weightlifting. If you're lifting for strength, power, or size, running will just burn threw those calories needed to build muscle. All depends on what your muscle goals are.
