Cystitis, an infection of the bladder is a common issue women face, and is not uncommon in men (interstitial cystitis is the typical diagnosis men receive). In a presentation to the Infectious Disease Society of America's recent meeting, a professor from the University of Miami's School of Medicine said that drinking more water could help avoid them.

- In a randomized trial, drinking about three extra pints of water a day cut the risk of an uncomplicated attack by half.
