You’ll see which foods you want to eat, and what they will do for you!
First, you should take time to have a healthy breakfast with plenty of nutrients. Yogurt, nuts, eggs, and fruit are all great for starting the day. You’ll also want to get plenty of fruits and vegetables throughout the day- shop for one of each color to get the maximum number of antioxidants. Green veggies, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, and berries of all colors are high in vitamins, fiber and nutrient value.
Eggs are great for protein, as they also contain many health benefits. For the healthiest eggs, pick humane-certified cage-free. Yogurt is a staple of many healthy diets, including Mediterranean diets. Hummus, salmon, and lean chicken are also jam-packed with protein and good fats. Olive oil also has high antioxidant value, but be careful when using it for very hot cooking. When using high heat, walnut oil is safer and also healthy. Try to avoid many canned products, but sardines and tuna are cheap and packed full of protein and minerals.
When choosing carbs, don’t eat anything white. Foods like white bread have very little value for vitamin content and fiber. Most people get too little fiber, and most processed foods have little to no fiber at all. Nuts have lots of fiber, but don’t eat too much, because they are high in calories. Black beans are very cheap and full of fiber. You can cook them very easily in slow cooker, and since they are a slow absorbing carb, they are very good for you. Quinoa is high in protein, and cooks just like rice. Black rice also has lots of fiber, but it takes a little longer to cook than white rice.
Lastly, you need to stay hydrated with lots of water. Avoid sugary drinks, even diet drinks and fruit juice. Coffee and tea are good in moderation.
