Hi and thanks for a great site. I am 54 years old and I have been monitoring my blood work for several years now. I just received my most recent blood work and I am a little concerned. It appears that my SHBG is medium high and my estradiol is low. This has been consistent for several years. My sex drive and energy levels are weak and I have been using a supplement similar to Viagra for erectile help.
My results are as follow; Total T-502 ng/dl, Free T-70.1 pg/ml (35-155 range), SHBG 42 (10-50 NMOL/L), Estradiol <5 (8-43 pg/ml) and TSH 2.36 (.27-4.2).
My questions are 1. Can I get my estradiol to come up by taking DHEA and 2. How do I lower my SHBG ?
There is more to my story but I need to learn to navigate the site properly.

Questions:
Q1. Can I get my estradiol to come up by taking DHEA and
A:Try supplementing Soy and Flax Seed in high quantities as they are estrogen mimics in men and will go to help increase your Estrogen. Your sex drive and ED issues are most likely a result of you low Estrogen as it is a classic symptom. Are you taking any meds that could cause that to be so low? Another way to increase your Estrogen is by taking IM injections of Testosterone as well. Estrogen follows Testosterone and this could help lower you SHBG as well!

Q2. How do I lower my SHBG ?
Your SHBG is not too concerning as it finds its own level in men. Your Free T at 70 pg/ml could be better but its not low in terms of cases we see in here. As noted above, one Testosterone injection per week would put some downward pressure on your SHBG levels as well as increase Estrogen. You can also try taking the supplement Stinging Nettle Root as well; there are a number of reports that it will lower SHBG and some men have sworn by it over the years. Also, increase your dietary protein and dairy intake and eat lots of fat What's strange about your blood work is that elevated SHBG is associated with higher levels of Estrogen and you are the opposite of that.

Gene, Thanks for the reply. The rest of my story is that I was using Testosterone at a low dose per my Uro doc. .5 cc of cyponate every ten days. I was on this schedule for 2011/2012 when my T crashed at 215 with low estrogen. I have since gotten off of the T schedule and my T has risen back into the 500 range. My estrogen has remained low. I don't know if I messed anything up or if it is something I take. I do not take any meds but have an assortment of supplements that I take.
There have been a couple of times that I have tried 1cc of T and have felt great but my prescription does not allow me this luxury and my Urologist will not adjust it.
I will do as you have suggested and have my blood cheked again at four to six weeks.
