No idea what is / was going on. Maybe in a mild form this has happened before, but this was getting very serious. I was bent over like an old man; the pain would wake me up. Even more serious, it seemed to have affected my mental state. As in, I would get a lot of anxiety. There were legitimate reasons for my anxiety, but it would get very exaggerated. My blood pressure also kept going up, but again, not sure if it is/was related.

What would start this cascade of events: I would do some moderately intense cardio for ½ hour on an elliptical machine, then ½ moderate cardio on a treadmill. After a few hours, my leg muscles would tighten up a lot. Stretching before and or after exercise seemed to have no effect.

The tight muscle would cause my back to start hurting, then my neck would start hurting. I couldn’t get close to touching my toes even though normally it’s not a problem. Gradually, my whole body would hurt. This would happen even if I did 7 hours of yard work, not really intense, just constant.

It kept happening even though I was conditioned after a couple of months of this. It was nothing like DOMS. Sometime a hot bath would help, sometime a massage gun would help. Usually hip flexors. quads and hamstrings were very painful/tight.

Then quite by accident, I discovered taking calcium would help. Now I take calcium citrate, not a lot, like one 250 mg before and after any cardio, which totals 38% of DV. Often, I take another 19% DV before bed along with drinking more milk.

I take a lot of magnesium. like 3 grams of magnesium glycinate. I mention this because there might be a magnesium calcium ratio problem. I take more magnesium because I take kratom which causes constipation, the magnesium counters that. I wasn’t taking any calcium supplements; my blood tests for calcium have always been in range. (My wife is lactose intolerant, so I tended not to have dairy in the house.) The only odd thing about my blood tests, for decades my potassium (40% of the time) would be slightly over range, as much as 6 mmol/L on a 3.5-5.2 range. This may or may not be related.

When I try to google calcium + Testosterone, I get a lot of really technical information I personally don’t understand. I also get a lot of info about a magnesium calcium ratio, which seems more likely related to my problem.

Technical info mentioned above: “An additional feature of interest regarding these channels is their ability to provide a repolarizing negative-feedback mechanism to reverse active contraction due to increased intracellular levels of calcium.”

BTW, there is “free” calcium and bound calcium, exactly like there is free and bound testosterone. Only the free calcium is active, something I never knew. There is even a blood test for free calcium, though I have never done that blood test.

Taking calcium supplements seems to fix these problems, though I am not yet sure about lowering blood pressure, not enough date yet about that,

I post this because I don’t understand what is / was going on, and maybe someone else has a similar problem.

Any thoughts about this?

Too much calcium gave me the same symptoms, pain/tightness in my hips, glutes, and hamstrings. I was taking calcium citrate when I had these symptoms.

I also had these symptoms when taking too much vitamin D. My calcium levels are high normal only taking 600 IU, anything more causes dehydration, nausea, muscle pain, trouble breathing, worsening diabetes and irregular heartbeat.
