Jump in Sex Horm Binding Glob

Hey All

I am 44. Very fit/lean. I have Hashimotos (autoimmune hypothyroid). I do not have crazy bad symptoms, but I always have extremely high antibodies (Thyroid Peroxidase--TPO-- of 3530 on a scale of 0-34).

Due to the Hashimotos, my doctor says I should have a bit higher T levels than most guys. This is because my Sex Hormone Binding Globulin is also high. It is generally in the 50s on a scale of 16.5-55.9

This most recent lab, my T number was 1156 (on a scale of 348-1197). But by SHBG was 92.8.

I take .5 ml of T (200) every 3 days and .4 ml HCG ever M, W and F.

My doc says that having such a high level of SHBG is soaking up all my available T and it is like having a T score in the 100s. He wants me to significantly increase my T each week to about 100 ml twice a week.

I get skin and hair side effects from too much T. So, I am wondering--does anyone know about SHBG? Why might it jump up like that? Any way to bring it down without increasing T?

As a side note, I am slowly trying to implement the autoimmune protocol diet because I have a lot of food allergies and that could be causing some of the autobody production (in case anyone knows about that subject).

Thanks for any help you can provide!

SHBG securely binds to the receptor sites on Testosterone making them useless.

High SHBG usually results in very low Free and/or Bio Available Testosterone (the testosterone that does the magic).

Increasing your Testosterone dosage at one injection per week should help you.

Make sure to keep an eye on Estrogen when you make this increase as well.

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
