Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition that affects many men at some point in their life. Penile injections are one of several options if other treatments fail, or for men who are unable to take ED oral medication. Urologic surgeon Petar Bajic, MD, explains the technique for safe use of penile injections.

I have probably done hundreds of injections so far. And I have followed my docs recommendations, which basically followed Empower's directions. I wonder if this video is a little long on the tooth? His instruction is a little....well the video depiction looks more like injecting at 11 and 1 versus 9-10 or 2-3. I have done that by accident and it ain't pretty. If you get too close to the top of the penis, you can damage the tunica and it smarts for a few days. Also his instruction NOT to take any of the PD5 inhibitors sounds like old school. Why old school? Because everyone is so worried about priapsim, but the reality is, if someone really needs injectables the risk of priapism is pretty low. I am not saying throw caution to the wind. I believe always start with a low dose and titrate up to the minimum you need. If you happen to be using PDE5's, especially daily tadalafil, you should discuss with your doc but probably continue them as the benefits don't end with injections. if you get a benefit from tadalafil or sildenafil, you would likely need less trimix to be effective, and thats ok.

I'm thinking about starting these--pills just don't seem to do the trick anymore. Any issue with fibrosis from the injections? Anything I need to be aware of starting out?

First I will say, they are not completely painless, but the injections don't cause more than a quick pinch. I want to ease any fears you have, they really are easy to give yourself. Be sure to ask for the 31 gauge 5/16" needles. Very tiny. As for fibrosis, I have not noticed anything like that at all. So you know, my doc who is an actual boarded sex medicine doc, has even told me I can inject myself as often as every 12 hours. Alternating sides as the video suggested. And honestly I have a ton of libido, so once I started injecting, which meant very nice, high quality erections, that I didn't even have to think about, it was fantastic. Due to my history of prostate cancer, and prior to that, my wife was not able to perform, sex really went off my list of things I like to do. Once I started injecting, I was like a kid in a candy store for the first 9 months. LOL. If you have a good urologist to teach you the basics, and follow the directions from the pharmacy, the several I have seen are pretty good, and easy to follow. Inject one side one day, and the other side the next time you inject. This is so you have a chance to heal properly. The biggest thing is to follow the directions so you don't move the needle around while it's embedded in you. The tiny needles if used correctly, wouldn't scar or cause problems. Your doc should also start you out on Tri Mix at a low dose, and tell you to carefully go up in dose to get the desired results. If you need more than 50 units of Tri Mix, it would be better to ask your doc for the Super Tri Mix. It is more potent, and you could cut the amount injected considerably. If your doc is willing to send your script to Akina Pharmacy in Virginia, they offer their 10 ml vial for far less than most others. $189 a vial for 10 ml is the best deal I have found. They actually send you 5 2.5 ml vials frozen and you take one out of the freezer at a time as you need. Their service is very good, and they will get you set up for refills as needed. Sorry to be so long winded, but it's really easy to do, and works very well. I have also had P shot's and shockwave treatments that helped a lot too, and all these things work together. I would also ask my doc if I were you, to start on tadalafil (generic Cialis) at 5-10 mg a day, as it's been shown to have good benefit. Some don't like to combine with the injections, but if you start low and gradually go up in amount injected, you should be ok.

I meant to reply earlier. Thanks for the info. Very helpful. What was your starting dose, if you don't mind me asking.
I have fairly severe ED. I started out on 10units of Tri Mix. I went up to 50 units, and did get an ok response but not quite what I wanted, so we moved on to Super Tri Mix. I ended up with a great response at about 30 units. However, gravity is not my friend, so wanting to be able to have a quality erection on my back, so my wife could play "cowgirl" I tried Quad Mix, too. Didn't really see much if any, benefit of quad Mix over Super Tri Mix, except that the Quad Mix seemed like it worked a little quicker, came on more smoothly. That is, as the erection started, It happened in a very steady way, faster. It was simply more natural to me. So I stayed with it. I am now also getting botox (or Bocox as some call it) which is a game changer. Its expensive, lasts about 3-4 months, But I was able to cut the dose of Quad mix in half and still received an erection as good as being 25! But it costs, anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 depending on who you see. the response was incredible. But you might not need it with Tri Mix at lower doses.

I wanted to thank you for the helpful information you have provided. I have used trimix three times so far--the first was unsuccessful--I don't think I injected it deeply enough (5 units). The second time (10 units)--fantastic; took a while (several hours) for the erection to go away--but fantastic erection. Third (10 units)--fantastic erection and went away after about an hour (don't know why). ON the third time, I have a small bump at the injection site and am hoping it will go away. I wanted to thank you -- sex is not anxiety producing now and my wife certainly enjoys it.

For all of you satisfied Trimix users, I have a question for you. When did you finally decide to make the jump? Was it that PDE-5 inhibitors finally weren't working very well anymore? Was it to overcome performance anxiety/stress? Combination? (I realize there are a lot of Trimix users that had prostrate problems)

While I can get a good erection at various times, the short duration and randomness are becoming more problematic and anxiety producing (which of course makes it worse). Psychogenic issues are certainly part of my issue.

Curious to anyone's input and thought process in making the leap. At almost age 57, I would like to hold off on the injections until later but may not be able to.

Thanks!
