As some of you know I crashed my Ferritin in January from a LabCorp HCT error and too many blood donations.

Jan TRT checkup blood test:

Retest 2weeks after donating 1 pint of whole blood. 51.7 to 45.9 ..........I don't think so.

So to keep track of my HCT and ferritin I have been doing small blood tests every 30 days to see how my numbers have been coming along.
This is not a report of those finding but just a heads up that Nelson has some awesome deals on specific blood tests. https://www.discountedlabs.com/testosterone-total-and-free-regular
Anyway check it out this would be a perfect time to check your peak TT for 30 bucks just so you know.

Anyway check it out if you have been wondering about one or more of your blood numbers.

What iron supplement are you taking to bring your ferritin back up and are you avoiding donations as one would have a difficult if not impossible time getting ferritin of 15 back in range while still donating even with supplementation.

I would never gauge ferritin by looking at hemoglobin/hematocrit levels as one can easily have low ferritin with normal hemoglobin/hematocrit levels.

What made you think I was doing that Madman do you not see my ferritin blood number on the bottom sheet? I found the low ferritin by complete accident when working with another forum member on my thryroid panel. It was suggested I test my ferritin.

I was taking Feosol Carbonyl Iron for a month. It was recommended by my nurse at Defy. I have not donated since that January screwup.

Haven't taken any iron supplements in a month so I just went into DiscountedLabs last night to orderup some new HCT and ferritin blood work when I noticed the sales so I though I would bring it to the groups attention.

Misread that my apologies!

How long were you using the supplement for and what dose of elemental iron/pill, how many pills/day?

Interested to see where your ferritin is at now.

I'm drawing blood this coming Monday so we should know the numbers very soon. I took 45mg everyday for one month. I also upped my weekly steak eating to 24 oz per week and switched my giant lunch time romain/tuna salad to spinach/tuna salad.

My 6 month Defy bloods are coming up in July and I don't want any weird surprises like last time. Kind of funny you have to pre blood test so you are ready for your real TRT blood test.

Do you have FeraMAX (polysaccharide iron-complex) in the US as it is 150 mg elemental iron per tablet and only once daily dosing is needed.

It is the only non-heme iron supplement in the non-ionic form and has the least chance of causing negative g.i. issues compared to the other forms of non-heme iron which are ionic salts.

Hope it comes back good as I know some can use iron bisglycinate 18mg elemental iron/capsule at 2 a day and are able to get ferritin back in range although some times much higher doses of elemental iron are needed in some to raise extremely low ferritin levels especially due to frequent blood donations.

Thank you I will look for these if my ferritin number comes back low. What do you think a good ferritin number would be for a 64 year old guy on TRT?

No I just did what Defy told me to do. I'll know soon enough if it was enough. If one can feel low ferritin then I have no problems I have been feeling great for the last month I feel my protocol is finely working as advertized.

One can have low ferritin without experiencing any symptoms so I would not necessarily go by how you feel.

Once you get labs back you will know whether it is ok now or if you need a higher supplemental dose.

I think in US lab reference range 90-125 is considered a healthy range.....I may be wrong though!

I think Healthman had some what similar ferritin numbers around 16 and he was able to bring his levels back into a descent range using iron bisglycinate (18mg twice daily) along with avoiding blood donations.

I hope during your time when starting/using the iron supplement that you avoided donating otherwise it is highly unlikely your ferritin will come back up.

The range is on my blood test 30-400
you are off your game today Madman, HaHa

I should have written that differently.....as in I am not sure what the US reference range for ferritin is but I think I had read that 90-125 is considered optimal but I may be wrong.

I cut my 150mg/wk TRT dose back to 100mg/wk and stopped donating blood on my own (with my Defy nurse's permission) and have been testing every month since January. 6 weeks ago I increased my dose to 120mg/wk and now I am ready to check HCT and ferritin to see where things lie in preperation for my 6 month Defy protocol checkup.

Thanks for the clarification on the range. I hope I can hit somewhere in there.
