Concerned about labs

Guys do I need to be concerned? I had labs done a week ago and for the first time my urea nitrogen BUN was 27 and normal is under 25. My BUN to Creatinine ratio is 28 and normal is below 22. My creatinine alone is normal though 0.97 and protein total normal 6.6.
I have been lifting weights for over a year and take WHEY protein one or two scoops a day on most days. Plus 2 months ago I took creatine supplement but not much maybe 1 gram every other day or two.
Can it be off because the weights and protein Whey? I've never had abnormal readings until now.

Dehydration, or a diet high in protein can make your BUN levels high. I wouldn't be too concerned unless you have constantly high levels.

If my total protein is fine on my labs. Can the protein intake still be the cause for the elevation?
I would say no, I was told before I have a blood draw I should be drinking a bottle of water while I'm driving the Clinic. You always want to be nice and hydrated especially when you doing labs.

HIgh protein diet, increased muscle mass, are two reasons for an increased Creatine and/or BUN. You should be ~10hrs fasted, very well hydrated for these tests (CMP). I also always refrain from gym/weights for at least 72hrs when testing these.

I drank a glass of water prior to labs and fasted for 10 hours at least. The renal numbers are not alarming I guess. What's alarming me more is my fasting glucose level of 104.

One glass of water is far from enough water prior to blood work Ideally, you should start drinking more fluids the day before your blood draw, and continue to drink water before you have your blood drawn. It doesn't have to be an excessive amount of water but most sources recommend that an adult drink 64 ounces of water per day for good health, which is more than adequate for having your blood drawn.

Your fasting glucose is basically just a snap shot of the glucose circulating in your blood at that moment in time. A better measurement is your HBA1C which is an estimation of your blood sugar over a 2 to 3 month period.

I completely forgot to drink the night before and only had that glass the morning of my labs. I've had A1C tested back in 2015 and it was 5.9 which is high. At that time I weighed more and my glucose level was 95 or so then. I don't understand why it's over 100 this time since I've lost weight. I understand the 104 is just a snapshot but never have I had it over 99.

It is probably nothing more than a little bit of dehydration since you only drank one glass of water in two days and maybe a poor diet or sugar in take close to the time of the blood draw. You can still be over 100 after losing weight. I personally would not be the least bit concerned about a 104 on a fasting glucose. A doctor would not even consider treating that. Again, it's just a snapshot. Eat a balanced diet, keep the sugar out as much as possible (make a conscious effort), exercise, and drink lots of water.

I use a preworkout of some type daily(C4 currently but it varies). Along with whey and casein proteins. For my TRT regimen is just Solely T.
I don't see those products having many carbs and if they did it's like everything else that has carbs and shouldn't be a reason for your numbers. I would get retested.

Thanks for the advise. I will repeat them in a month or so and be well hydrated then. Now on the urea nitrogen BUN. Can I continue my Whey protein or stop for a month and see what it shows?

I would continue, I like to see those tests as a false positive, if you will. But I would still suggest about 72hrs you cut all of it out and then have your blood draw...no whey, no creatine, fast and be well hydrated. When I do that I always have Creatinine/BUN well under the lab maximum.

I think what played the major role in this elevation was the dehydration and the whey protein you were taking. Nothing wrong with whey but but if you are not hydrating properly it an throw your results off. Years ago I never drank water but always drank soda pops. Back then I was mixing my whey protein in milk. Every time I had labs done my Bun would be high as well as my Bun/Creatinine ratio.

I think you are fine but if you want to stop a month so you know in your own mind, then that is what I'd do. No harm in backing off the whey for a month.
