My 57th year is a big step down from how I felt at 56.
Been reading a lot on optimizing endogenous production, i.e. fasting, avoid alcohol/sugar, good oils, sleep, intensity, avoiding soy, etc.
But I don't want TO BECOME FRAIL. At this point I can still train, arthritis isn't stopping me yet. And, I believe my T levels have had ups and downs over the years. Sex drive and wood quality has been fluxuating and slipping now for months, not sure diet is gonna cut it...
Thinking about pulling the trigger and getting on Cypionate weekly or bi-weekly to avoid losing bone or muscle mass that won't come back. Comments? Guys in mid-late 50's?

If you need help finding a knowledgeable doctor, maybe we can help you locate someone competent enough to help you get optimised as few doctors truly know how to do TRT well. You may not find any help with a garden variety endocrinologists or urologist, neither really specialize in TRT.

The chances of a man in his late 50's being optimal naturally isn't very common these days. If you have aches and pains, TRT may be able to minimize or eliminate it altogether. As far as protocols go, sometimes once weekly can work, but the majority of men do two doses a week, but if SHBG is on the lower end M/W/F and even EOD seems to work best. If SHBG is super low everyday is best.

Let's not forget about the thyroid, for TRT to work well your thyroid needs to be optimal or TRT may not live up to your expectations.

Welcome to the forums.

You should start with complete labs:

Total and free T
E2 sensitive
SHBG
COMPLETE thyroid panel
Lipids, etc.

Then you can have a better understanding and picture of what is happening.

It could be something as simple as thyroid issues. But at 57, your body is starting to slow down. And starting a T regiment could improve things for you.

As far as dosing schedule....your SHBG level will dictate that. But for the most part, once a week injection protocol does not work well for most.

Good luck.

Welcome to ExcelMale. I agree before you think about trt you should have complete labs. Also you might want to consider getting some Cialis, there's so many benefits plus it does lower estrogen and increase testosterone.

I agree that you need to start off with a complete set of labs that emphasizes hormones to include things like PSA, A1C, c-reactive protein. thyroid panels, lipids.

Because your baseline PSA is important, A1C tells you if you have good glucose control, c-reactive indicates any sort sort of inflammation, thyroid problems look a lot like testosterone problem.

But odds are you are lower than 350 TT based mostly age and symptoms. Without labs you are only guessing. I have read Cialis can increase TT by 100 ng/dl, if you were 400 ng/dl then 500 ng/dl may make all the difference.

You can increase testosterone naturally, (though I am not sure taking cialis really falls under natural but at least it's your own production of T) but only so much so it depends on what you are working with now.

Thank you Vince. In September I had a lab test TSH of 2.590, but no other readings were requested. I guess you still would recommend the full panel. By the way I feel OK, not depressed (even though the sun has disappeared for the next 4 months) and I love the sun. I can workout fairly hard and strong without a hot/cold sweat. But the sex power has slipped, I can feel the lack of T. Also, can you tell me a little more about the Cialis benefits, I didnt know a thing about Cialis until reading your reply.
