Have they determined a cause for thyroid issues (hashimotos, etc)? Sometimes thyroid issues and medicines can mess with cortisol.
Holy basil at night helps lower cortisol
ETA: just realized this thread is old AF
Hi Chris, thanks so much for the response.
I honestly have been lenient to go that high with any mess as my ft3/ft4 hormones have never been low and unmedicated were in the upper third of range...
I only take 70mcg of selenium now as part of a multi. I will ratchet that up to 400 and see...
After thinking more about this, I'm wondering if I have a T4 conversion issue and should be looking into a T3 only regimen? It seems no matter what amount of T4 I'm on, I get sent into a tailspin, resulting in only TSH suppression. T4 never really moves, and in fact FT3 decreases. Shouldn't a...
Hey guys, back with an update for ya after seeing new endo (Dr. Ravi Dhawale) and adjusting thyroid protocol, sorry I didn't post comprehensive labs but iron, ferritin, etc. are all good and in range. Sorry to duplicate, this was in an old thread but I thought it'd be better as a new topic...
I had all of it, thought it was cortisol (but I took 24 hour test during a bad bout of insomnia)...a recheck showed that was ok. But once I stopped meds and reintroduced them at lower dose I was fine. I do need to recheck cortisol now that I'm back on T4 though
Oh yes, definitely. Within a few weeks I would wake up and be groggy/be able to go back to sleep. Even on lower dose (25mcg) synthroid I still went to sleep easily and was able to sleep in if I wanted to (I'm a chronic "snooze-pusher" haha)
Instead of how I was on NDT/higer synthroid dose...I...
I did the same thing, as mentioned above T3 is out of the system quickly, T4 takes a while. I quit cold turkey and had no issues, felt better with 10 days.
NDT (and higher dose T4 meds) were way too stimulating for me, you might find the same is true for you...
Hey guys, back with an update for ya after seeing new endo (Dr. Ravi Dhawale) and adjusting thyroid protocol. This is an odd situation so bear with me...
PRE-TREATMENT (Sept 2016)
TPO/Thyroid Peroxidase: 220 IU/mL (0-34 IU/mL)
TSH: 7.89ulU/mL (.450-4.5 ulU/mL)
T3 free: 3.6 pg/ml (2.0-4.4...
OK I have sublingual DHEA so I'll try to see if that helps. My serum # didn't look too bad so I hadn't considered it.
My sleep is the HUGE issue right now. When I have these episodes, without fail, I wake up a couple hours after going to sleep, usually fall back to sleep, and then wake again...
Thank you so much for your help! I'll answer your paragraphs by bullets...
-they didn't do DHEA with saliva cortisol labs BUT I have a serum number of: 386 ug/dL (ref 138.5-475.2 ug/dL Roche ECLIA method) which seemed to be good! That's good insight thanks, I've been dabbling with how to...
Update - cutting out thyroid protocol until adrenals can handle it, as the insomnia when I started thyroid meds. I did feel good for a few days after starting thyroid med or adjusting dose, but that was short-lived.
Will continue to support adrenals and hopefully things stabilize. Heck, TSH...
To help with sleep (since we know my night time cortisol is too high) doc suggested Phosphatidylserine at 10PM or so, beginning with 100mg to see if that helps.
Anyone had success with that? I know it's been studied more extensively as a workout supplement...
The main thing I need is sleep...
Thanks! Thankfully I was helped out with that day one, and take 200-400mcg of selenium per day (in Pure Encapsulations Ultranutrient multivitamin)
I haven't had TPOab run since starting treatment but the thyroid med and supplementation has lowered my TSH from almost 8 to 3.66. FT3 actually...
Thanks! Unfortunately the sleep for me was never a huge issue until starting thyroid meds about 1.5-2mos ago. I actually read on that STTM site that adrenal issues are commonly exposed once starting thyroid treatment. Which is why the doc then did saliva test and confirmed the adrenal
Issue, he...
Hello all, I'm a recent newbie here and super appreciative for all the guidance. My intro thread is here (https://www.excelmale.com/forum/showthread.php?8671-New-guy-from-Ohio) with ALL results, but basically I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and also have low/irregular...
Could use some more help, labs came back and saliva cortisol results are low then high at night, hence why the thyroid meds make me feel like garbage. Taking WP Thyroid during this test, and was very sleep deprived.
5am: 6.2ng/mL (range 3.7-9.5)
Noon: 1.9ng/mL (range 1.2-3.0)
6pm: 0.9ng/mL...
That's what I asked him about, or compounded/slow release T3. I think that may be a good course of action. Iron and ferritin are good.
I do have a diurnal saliva test out that I should have results back on within a week, so that will tell us more but my serum cortisol and other markers...
Hey fellas,
it's been a rough 5 weeks since starting the WP Thyroid...started on 65mg and upped to 97.5mg and have been feeling worse since. I've been to ER and seen doc with pounding heart, chest tightness, insomnia, etc. Numbers are fine, resting BPM of 48-54 (normal for me), BP of 125/60...
OK thanks I will look into that and the sublingual. The latter is substantially cheaper than the cream and I would think dosage would be more stable going that route...
I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis, along with some low LH/FSH and low free testosterone...I've had two docs with two different schools of thought address the LH/FSH and low free T (total T is great).
Doc 1: Prescribed oral DHEA and Pregnenolone. The DHEA came from an off book pharmacy (can't...
I would encourage you to go that route if you can, luckiy I had a full lab done at one time and the first doc I saw wanted me to go the Clomid route for same reason (low LH and free testosterone) but my TSH was 8 and TPO was 220. So after discussing options with other docs and being diagnosed...
Thanks, per your advice also picked up a kelp supplement (tons of iodine in there).
Appreciate all the help gents, I feel like I'm on a better track now. Doc said with my TSH/TPO as it was, I should start to feel benefits of the WP Thyroid in just a few days...we shall see!
Diagnosis from second doc is Hashimotos. He's prescribing WP Thyroid (65mg) and says ok to continue with DHEA and Pregnenolone but he says to hold off on the clomid. He says it's also time to go gluten free, which im semi used to anyway (my wife has silicac and rheumatoid arthritis).
Retest...
Yes I have, and with my levels this high I am definitely curious if just nutrient deficiency (which I wasn't super low on on those vitamins) could cause all this. Definitely seeking another opinion.
I definitely appreciate that he wanted to take the most conservative approach, and re-test in 3...
OK I better understand his approach now, after more explanation. The original doc I saw explained it a little more and his view is that the thyroid issues are more nutrient-deficiency based. He's not ruling out that it could be hypothyroidism or something, but wanted to explore this route...
Thank you for the feedback, yes I agree the more I learn it seems that the HRT to address testosterone, in the face of the other results, is like trying to stop a leaky tire by continually pumping air into it (instead of patching the leak).
This doctor helped me to uncover these issues and it...
