Doxazosin restored my morning erections

The use of Doxazosin to relax smooth muscle tissues like your penis and prostate gland is very beneficial and healthy in men. In fact, it's part of my NO Stack here in the supplement forum....and our highest read sticky by far.

This use of Doxazosin was first used by a true pioneer in men's health and now retired, Dr. Eugene Shippen. When combined with a PDE5i and additional NO supplements it can be a very powerful ED combo from some men...but near as powerful as Trimix...the pumps in the gym are sick as is vascularity.

Gene: do you know if flomax does the same thing, or is that my imagination? It’s in the same class of drug as doxazosin.

Been using a modification of the stack of yours. If you sold it to big Pharma you’d have been one of those 1 percenters we always hear about. Thanks Gene.

Do I always suggest the 1mg twice a day? Will that be too much for some guys? Heard if u take to much it has the opposite effect on erections? Thanks

Doxazosin ( Cardura) is actually used to treat enlarged prostates.
No one knows why but many men with BPH have erection issues.
Perhaps trying to get aroused when you constantly have an urge to urinate is the culprit.

Just be aware before you start self medicate if you’re already on other type of blood pressure medication and supplement NO enhancers viagra,Cialis etc... you’re blood pressure can dramatically put you at risk if it’s going down too much.

Happy you’re responding well Geauxbears! Doxazosin is considered an escalation from the traditional ED treatments (PDE-5i and nitric oxide enhancers).
Does Doxazosin have to be taken daily to notice the effects everyday? For example if a dose is missed a day, you wouldn't have morning wood the following morning?

I have been recently put on Floras, which is in the same class of drugs. May be imagination, but I think it may improve erection quality. Been getting some random erections during the day. Not thinking or touch involved. Pretty unusual I’d guess for 64 years old.

Anybody know? Calling Dr. Saya or madman?
Any alpha 1 blocker can potentially result in erectile improvement via smooth muscle (for example in the intima of arteries) relaxation.

Dr. Saya - can you provide insight into the specific mechanism of action for doxazosin? How does it achieve the desired results I’m seeing? I’m trying to understand why my body needs this magnitude of assistance when I’m only 33, active, low body fat, etc. I know it’s a BP med - I began checking my BP at home a while ago because when they check at the doctor it’s always 150/95ish and they ask if I have BP issues (which scared me)... but checking at home it’s almost always perfect around 120/80.

I do struggle with generalized and situational anxiety and am wondering if the doxazosin somehow inhibits the physical manifestations of that condition.

Thanks for your thoughts.
As noted doxazosin dampens the vasoconstriction from the sympathetic nervous system (norepinephrine). Norepinephrine vasoconstricts (reason for cold hands, clammy skin, no erection/shriveled up penis/scrotum, etc) when the sympathetic nervous system tone is heightened...stress, anxiety, fight/flight, etc.

Dr Saya, I would like to ask my GP to give Doxazosin a try at the moment I take Telmisartan.
Would that be a good idea? I remember I asked some years back and he said it was an older medication that he normally doesn´t prescribe. I think he would let me try but would it be as good as Telmisartan?

It will not lower your blood pressure as well as telmisartan, odds are you will get more side effects with a higher dose of doxizosin to control np. You could
Possibly lower the telmisartan dose and take 1 -2mg of dox.

Agree with Zooka above, will not likely lower BP as effectively as the telmisartan. Would have to monitor for low BP if using combo, as combining drugs will often have a cumulative effect. Talk to your GP and get his take on it.

Nice response and spot on!
Doxazosin (Cardura) does not help ED symptoms. Many BP meds dilate blood vessels and some can cause ED symptoms. If you have generalized anxiety, which I believe you mentioned, that for sure can cause ED just like depression can. Cialis 5mg daily is marketed for ED but IMO it frequently doesn’t work because the dose is so low. I tried it without success. I then started taking cialis 20mg daily and problem solved completely. I’m also on TRT. Make sure that your estradiol (E2) is in a good range (typically 20 to 30 pg/ml but preferably 25 to 30). E2 less than 20 can definitely cause ED same as low T can.

You're giving very poor advice, ill informed and just ignorant.

A few years back I suffered a brain aneurysm (subcarinal hemorrhage) that was fixed with a platinum coil. It was a miracle that I survived with zero deficits. For someone who has experienced this be cautious of drugs like doxazosin or Cialis that dialate blood vessels or do they have to be more cautious of blood thinners and blood thinning supplements (asprin, Hawthorne berry, etc.)? Neurosurgeon basically said, “You’re perfectly normal now, do anything”. However I’d like to be cautious.

Cardura (Doxazosin) Blocks norepinephrine on the vascular system causing smother muscle relaxation and wider blood vessels. So maybe you have to much norepinephrine???
Yes, this is exactly why it works. It works for me in this same manner. I've always been too norepinephrine dominate and any drug, like Doxazosin, improves erection quality (in terms of maintaining them in my case). However the side effects are not tolerable for me.

I also tried Atomoxetine (Strattera) and another one I can't remember the name of for blocking norepinephrine, and they also improve erections. However each of these give terrible side effects as well (feel dead all day long, bags under the eyes and more).

In my case I have found either metformin or berberine work just as well as doxazosin with many other added benefits. They have improved erections as much or more than dox/nor blockers. I believe I have insulin resistance (have a little fatty liver, had high uric acid, never had good blood sugar control, etc) which is implicated in endothelial dysfunction and vasoconstriction. It seems these agents protects against endothelial dysfunction, lower blood pressure and relax the artery walls.
