On your own or not on your own, if you are going to legally be on TRT, then a doctor has to write a prescription. I guess the question is, how much do you hope to pay for TRT? Are you hoping to get heath insurance to pay for it?Do you pay for health insurance? Because unless you get good health insurance for a free or low cost, for the most part I think heath insurance isn't a good ROI, especially if you are generally healthy. For ~11 years I had no health insurance, you have to really think out of the box to both determine how much health care you really need then find the least expensive way to get treatment.
