Current therapeutic strategies for treating excessive sleepiness include melatonin, stimulants, and planned naps while strategies for treating insomnia include sedative hypnotics and timed light exposure. Since a significant proportion of shift workers experience SWSD and a large majority report fatigue during shifts, therapeutic strategies for SWSD represent an area of future research capable of profound impact on improving organizational productivity, employee safety, and overall health of non-standard shift workers.</p></blockquote><p></p>
