Earlier this week, Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) introduced the SARMs Control Act of 2018. If passed and signed by the President, the Act would amend the Controlled Substances Act to list SARMs as Schedule III controlled substances, meaning they would be regulated by the DEA the same as anabolic steroids. . https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/115/s2742/text?utm_campaign=govtrack_feed&utm_source=govtrack/feed&utm_medium=rss . https://www.hatch.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2018/4/hatch-whitehouse-introduce-legislation-to-empower-dea-s-regulation-of-sarms . The Act defines "SARM" as "any drug or other substance that is a selective androgen receptor agonist chemically unrelated to tesosterone, estrogens, progestins, corticosteroids, and dehydroepiandrosterone . . ." Specifically scheduled (but not an exclusive list if the substance otherwise fits the definitions) are ostarine, LGD-4033 (ligandrol), RAD-140, andarine, and several other common SARMs products. . I do not see MK-677 (ibutamoren/nutrobal) listed, and while it isn't techinically a SARM, it is often sold by the same "research chem" places that sell LGD and the like. I wonder whether MK could fit under the Act's catchall definition SARMs not otherwised listed, which states that a substance shall be considered a SARM if it: . (I) has been created or manufactured with the intent of producing a drug or other substance that— . (aa) promotes muscle growth; or . (bb) otherwise causes a pharmacological effect similar to that of testosterone; or . (II) has been, or is intended to be, marketed or otherwise promoted in any manner suggesting that consuming the drug or other substance will promote muscle growth or any other pharmacological effect similar to that of testosterone.
