Meat Grinders Great way to know where your protein comes from

Got to play with an early Christmas present. It was 9F(-12C) here in Denver this morning so homemade chilli is on the menu.

Anyone else making their own ground beef?

I don't process myself, but I normally get 4 or 5 whitetails each year providing us quite a bit of meat for the year. I lack the space to cool/process the deer myself. My wife won't let me use the dining room table . But I know this meat doesn't have any steroid hormone drugs in them.

I can't tell you how many people I've fed venison to and they had no idea. Doesn't matter if I cut steaks from the backstrap, hamburger, or roast. If you take care of the deer immediately after taking the deer you'll have good meat that is not gamey.

I have thought about getting a grinder so I can make my own sausage from the venison. I've had some good sausage from different processors, but normally it's under spiced.

Unfortunately, I'm sure we still get plenty steroids in other foods; chicken, turkey, milk, cheese, eggs, and etc.

I've always had a small phobia over meat I can't identify. Too many disturbing stories. I have cousins that work in the meat packing industry.

Grinding my own from meat I pict at the grocer allows me to determine the texture, fat content, and seasonings.
Makes the best tasting chilli, meat/steak loaf, hamburgers. Cuts of meat I could never chew with these 64 year old teeth are now do-able.
