My story about anxiety. I've been locked in fight or flight mode for many years, a comorbidity of untreatable bipolar, along with a difficult, dysfunctional marriage. Been prescribed, at different times, prazosin or doxazosin, two old blood pressure meds used off label for PTSD because it was found they reduce activity of the sympathetic nervous system. But I've tried them at different times and response was nil...until a couple of days ago. I used to take either one at night or near bedtime and no improvement in sleep. Two days ago, dealing with severe anxiety in my sleep and dangerously high blood pressure(caring for my wife who has early or middle stage dementia) I took 1 mg of doxazosin when I got up. Within two hours, the feeling of stress and anxiety greatly diminished. BP came down to way normal(114/74 to 125/75). By evening started getting semi-erections. Last afternoon/evening, I was experiencing increased libido along with sporadic strong spontaneous erections. Had several nocturnal erections, too. I'm also on daily T injections, IM, 10 mg. Doxazosin is known to improve erectile function in some men. Anxiety, I'm beginning to understand, can leave you MIA in bed. Point being, if the sympathetic nervous system is dominant, in fight or flight mode, attaining an erection can be a no go. Turning it down with the use of this particular medication seems to be(emphasize on 'seems') allowing my erectile function to come back. As I stated, I'm taking doxazosin to relieve the overwhelming anxiety and dangerously high blood pressure. I can only hope that rebalancing my autonomic nervous system will also result in the return of erectile function. EDIT: All those who promote 'No FAP' must have clogged prostate glands. I've argued online with some of those young men and they swear they have no prostate issues. Right. A doctor told me, years ago, that if you're not having sex, masturbate. "Your prostate will thank you and you won't need to come see me!"
