Normal
Thanks Nelson. This an important test to have done because it ties into another possible problem for those who perform muscular strength exercise. My personal trainer worked me very hard during a training session. About three days later I had my routine blood work done. The results showed that one of my liver enzymes (AST) was 10X the normal upper limit range. My doctor was very alarmed that my liver was not functioning properly. Turned out that after a five day rest from working out, the liver enzyme test was performed again along with a CPK test. The liver values returned to normal, but the CPK value was high indicating that the increase in AST enzyme was due to muscle breakdown from exercise and not from liver damage. AST is released from both the liver and skeletal muscle upon breakdown. Hope this helps others regarding possible concern with elevated AST values.
