High DHT, Progesterone and my Prostate

    Hello!
I have been doing TRT since 2012, and my DHT has been too high the entire time. And.... I am going bald now, so decided to shave my head. I may be once of the few men on the planet that doesn't care too much about that. Life is easier with a shaved head!

But what I do care about is my prostate. I have suffered 2 bouts of prostatitis in the past 2 years. One had me bed ridden for 3 days. Plus, in general I have a weak urine flow. I have symptoms of BPH, though a rectal exam (supposedly) indicated my prostate was normal sized. So.... I am trying to lower my DHT again. Hoping this might help.

Here is my regimen, and as it has been for years:

    Testosterone : 175mg/wk (via 2 Test E injections subq)
    HCG : 250iu every 2 days
Adex: .25 pill every 2 days
    Saw Palmetto: 480mg daily

As of a week ago, I am:
Reducing Test to 120mg/wk (might go even lower to 100)
Using 20mg Prog Cream per day
    Taking 800mg Saw Palmetto
Eating 1 cup of raw pumpkin seeds per day

I had bloodwork done before the new regimen, and will do it again in 6 weeks. (Should I wait longer?) I am determined to bring my DHT down, in order to see if it helps my prostate. The keys are: less Test, and Progesterone. The pumpkin seeds are just a shot in the dark (but based on real research.)

Note: One thing I noticed is 2 weeks in, my balls are slightly bigger/fuller, and hang lower. And erections not quite as strong.

Post labs regarding your original protocol 175 mg/week.

Estradiol plays a role regarding prostate health.

Have you looked into low dose daily cialis as it has been approved for bph?

I am 48. I live in Canada. I do take 5mg Cialis daily for BPH. Bloodwork results not in for a few weeks when I visit my doctor again.

(I am writing on my phone so I am being brief.)

    Thanks for the replies.

DHT and Prostate are barely related, Estrogen is more of the culprit, if there is one. Added that hairloss is far more genetic than DHT, too.

I also take Cialis 5 mg.

That is MY story, and I am sticking to it
If you are really concerned start with 4K blood test and if needed a 3T-MP-MRI.
BTW there is URO here that does answer basic questions. You might ask his thoughts also.

Good info. What is your concern about having a biopsy?

I would never have a blind biopsy.
If I felt I need one it would be at a min. a 3T-MP-MRI, guided one.
At present I have no BIG red flags waving.
If I end up having to get a biopsy I will have to see if anything shows up.
Even if it comes back positive then one needs to look at the type.
If slow growing, one would need to evaluate current age and quality of life.
Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease and you could die of old age first, so why go down that other road.
On the other hand if it is an aggressive form, all bets are off.
Some additional threads with some more information.

Thanks for all of your links! I really appreciate it. I will read them today.

My prostate health is a big concern for me. Fact is, my dad and his dad both had serious prostate cancer. For his dad, it killed him in his 60s. For my dad, he was diagnosed, and had his prostate removed in his late 60s, but now it appears to have metastasized and is back (even without a prostate) with him in his late 70s. So It may end up killing him, too.

Regarding someone saying that DHT and the Prostate barely being related, and the culprit being Estrogen, I would appreciate more info, and links that support this. I am suspicious.

Finally, one way or the other, I want to lower my DHT. I am in Canada, and my DHT tests (which I have to pay for!) always show my DHT so high that it cannot be measured. Specifically:

    DHT > 8600 [Range 860-3406 PMOL/L]

    * So my DHT was somewhere beyond 8600 PMOL/L.

Something so high cannot be a good thing. I want all of my hormones to at least be in the normal physiological ranges.

    I appreciate the replies, guys!

with a family history that you have you have every space to be very alarmed for your own well being. AS far as I think I know, Progesterone creams are generally ill-advised for men. Have you had a PSA blood test?

Much like ExcelMale with folks helping folks.
A LOT of good basic info on testing and options.
Not that you will ever get PCa, but good to know options and such before that ever happens.
    My 2 cents.
