I was told they need to do a biopsy to get a Gleason score.
Guided is harder to find covered by insurance. My own preference would be to pay out of pocket for guided out of state by a Dr with a ton of expertise and experience. I already know several options high on my list, Dr Joe Busch would...
UPDATE: 8-22-19, @Orrin Israel what do you think?
I got the results back from the MRI and the score is PI-RADS 4/5, one question I didn't ask was the size of the suspicious area. They recommended that I get a Fusion Biopsy.
Here's the test results:

Ok so I switched from UCI to UCLA and saw Dr. Leonard Marks, pictured in the video above. They're going to request an MRI and I'll go from there. His younger doctor saw me first and said he doesn't think I have prostate cancer and that I have BPH. They did another PSA test, so we'll see were...
Ok just got the call from the doctor they approved the MRI.
I called UCI Medical Center and asked about the MRI, they said you just get put in a machine like a donut using contrast (like a regular MRI). I thought there was a thin wire inserted into the rectum and they took pics? @Orrin Israel
I filed an expedited appeal earlier today with Anthem Blue Cross regarding the denial of the MRI. They just called and said they would have an answer in 72 hours.
I don't have the results for the SelectMDX test in front of me but the doctor called on Friday and said:
40% chance of non-aggressive cancer which equals Gleason 6 or less
14% chance of aggressive cancer which equals Gleason 7 or higher
I'm going to call the insurance company on Monday...
Should get the results from the SelectMDX test on Monday.
The Urologist submitted a request for an MRI and Anthem Blue Cross EPO just denied it.
Explanation: Since my doctor said I have a high level of a chemical made in my prostate. An MRI is a way to take pictures of the inside of the body...
Good news, I took a PSA test yesterday and it came back at 3.5 which is in the normal range. I didn't realize it but just found out that you're not supposed to exercise or have sex 48 hours before the test. Pretty sure that wasn't the case on the other tests but not100% positive. Still waiting...
Sorry, I don't know what I was thinking...Yes, if the MRI shows no areas of concern, then I won't be doing a biopsy. If there's an area of concern then it will be a Fusion Biopsy.
Thanks, I will watch those videos!
I had the SelectMDX test today and the Urologist (results in 2 weeks) said he thinks I should still do the biopsy, they only offer the TRUS biopsy.
He said he could send me to UCI for the MRI. He said they do an MRI and if they find anything questionable they...
Ok, change of plans!
I talked to a friend at work today, his PSA is at 9.7, prostate is 110 grams, he's had 2 TRUS biopsies, 10 & 12 core samples. His doctor now does the mpMRI and there's no cancer.
I just cancelled my biopsy and scheduled a SelectMDX test for June 20.
Will keep you posted!
From what I've been reading, the TRUS biopsy is the old standard of care. I think your steps 1 & 2 make a lot of sense, just not sure how my insurance will handle the MRI.
Ok I saw the other Urologist today. He said he could do the selectMDX test but would still recommend the biopsy. I think I'm going to go with the first Urologist as he graduated from Dartmouth, been in practice over 20 years, and written multiple publications.
% Free PSA = 9.4, which gives me a...
I started TRT (200mg/week) on 8-1-2016 and PSA was 1.2.
On 8-10-18 PSA was 3.6
On 4-8-19 PSA was 5.3
My doctor gave me a urine test for protein and sent me to a Urologist. Urologist did a DRE and found no lesions, masses, cysts etc. of course prostate was enlarged. Urologist prescribed...
