reducing T dose, how long to steady state?

Testosterone has a half-life of about 8 days. It takes approximately 5 half-life cycles for steady state. So about 40 days.

Does hematocrit keep increasing after testosterone steady state? How often to check?

My ferritin is fine. My H/H levels came down 2 months after I started the injections twice per week. They have been consistently between 16.1 and 16.5 on the hemoglobin and hematocrit approximately 3x the hemoglobin. I've been donating blood for about 5.5 years and have only noticed the...

Does hematocrit keep increasing after testosterone steady state? How often to check?

Based on my experience since I started try 6 years ago, my H/H went from pre TRT levels of 14.7/45 to as high as 18.2/54. I donate blood every two months and I take baby aspirin as well as (3) 980 mg fish oils caps per day. At the higher H/H levels, I was injecting intramuscular once per week...

New(to me) Nighttime drink to improve sleep.

I'm definitely going to give this a try as well. I've tried just about everything to improve my sleep with little success other than prescription drugs! Thanks for the heads up!

I am always hot: Is this a high estradiol symptom?

Have you had your hematocrit and hemoglobin levels checked? With that much test you may be suffering from the side effects of induced polycythemia. I realize everyone is different but I inject twice a week 36 mg per injection and my test is 90% of range maximum after day four. I also was...

    Pregnenolone opinion PLEASE..

I had also experienced brain fog in the past. I believe mine was due to a combination of low T and decreased thyroid function. Once I got my TSH levels optimized along with higher testosterone levels, the brain fog dissipated and I haven't experienced its effects again over the last 7 years.

    Quetiapine for sleep

I just happened to see your thread on Trazadone for sleep. (I haven't been on this sight for a while). Anyways, I have taken many prescription drugs over the last 12 years for my insomnia. Trazadone worked fairly well for me except for the bazaar dreams that I was having. My dreams were...

    I take too many supplements

Thanks for the education. I never read that about vitamin K. I'll definitely read up on the matter. My personal concern is that taking testosterone increases my hematocrit to where I donate blood every 2 months. I don't know if the Vit-K would exacerbate my blood viscosity along with the TRT.

    I take too many supplements

Sounds time consuming and expensive but if you feel better then it is worth it! It is interesting that you take vitamin K which is a blood coagulant and EPA & DHA which thins the blood. Were your supplements recommended by a health professional or as a result of personal research?

    Pregnenolone opinion PLEASE..

Mine is also below the range minimum and taking oral pregnenolone does not increase my levels. I am on TRT and supposedly the feedback loop while on testosterone will suppress pregnenolone production. I have been concerned about pregnenolone as it is a neural transmitter and I have had...

    Allergy to testosterone or hcg

It may be possible that the testosterone is down regulating your DHEA which can boost your auto-immune system. I take testosterone cypianate as well and suffer with seasonal allergies. My latest round of blood work indicated my testosterone was at the 85% of range max but my DHEA was at the...

Dosing to prevent ups and downs

I agree with ERO. Each individual is unique and responds differently to various hormone levels. If I recall, testosterone has a half life of about 8 days so at twice per week your trough is probably down 25% from its peak. I would think most men feel good somewhere between 700 and 900. I've...

Dosing to prevent ups and downs

I switched from one injection of 80mg per week to 40 mg twice per week and it has proven to be very beneficial. My hematocrit levels are much better as well as a complete subsidence of any flushing and hot flashes. I also changed my arimidex from 0.5 mg twice per week to EOD using .25mg...

TSH stable for 5+ years on 50mcg levothyroxine. Any reason to check Reverse T3?

I have been on levothyroxin for 10 years and have found that as long as I'm feeling and functioning at an optimal level to leave things alone. It took me several years to dial it in to where I felt great again. I found that as long as I am in a TSH range of 0.8 - 2.0 TSH with fairly good T4...

    Splitting testosterone into multiple injections

Thanks! I'm using approx. .25 mg of Anastrozole 3 times per week. Based on your response I may get away with less. I guess I'll just have to wait for labs and adjust accordingly. I did take Nelson's advice and bought the 27 gauge- 1/2" needles and started should injections..........much...

    Splitting testosterone into multiple injections

Does anyone have lab results or experience in going from one injection of testosterone cypianate per week vs two per week. If you simply cut the prescribed dosage in half will you end up with albiet more stable levels but at a lower percentage of the range? Do you need to go higher that 50% of...

Issue with high hemoglobin & hematocrit (HGB @ 19.6!)

Unfortunately my long winded reply got vaporized somehow so I'll give you the short answer at this point. H/H prior to TRT was 14.7 and 47.4 on average. Normally my H/H levels at the time of donation are about 17.6 - 18.2 with hematocrit at 52-54%. I'm hoping the with to twice per week will...

Issue with high hemoglobin & hematocrit (HGB @ 19.6!)

I am in the same boat. Although I donate 500cc every 8weeks, my hematocrit was 59% and hemoglobin was 19.7 . I take 80mg or 0.4 cc of test cypianate once per week. My H&H was the highest it's ever been and I'm thinking that it is due to taking 25mg of DHEA at bedtime for sleep. I'm 59 years...

My case.. 28 year old striving for optimal living!

I just wanted to add that I saw you had your thyroid tested and the numbers looked ok. That said, you mentioned that you had Vitaligo which is an autoimmune disorder that is common in people who have had Hashimotos disease where the thyroid feeds on itself. Have your thyroid antibodies checked...

My case.. 28 year old striving for optimal living!

Based on your previous protocol of climid and DHEA, your testosterone levels are a little on the high side so I don't know why you would want them any higher. Your doc is giving you an aromatase inhibitor that should lower your estradiol level which is currently twice what it should be. Based...

Strange side effect? warm skin/hot flushes of Hcg and Tostran

I use the Arimidex as an aromatase inhibitor to keep my estrogen low while taking testosterone cypianate. I guess the hot flashes are simply a change in hormone levels as they change more radically with exogenous hormones.

Strange side effect? warm skin/hot flushes of Hcg and Tostran

I was getting flushed on a regular basis for the last 5 years on trt especially if I had any alcohol. I also take thyroid hormone. The hot flashes and flushing sensation just stopped about a month ago. I have no clue why it stopped as I didn't change any lifestyle habits, diet, exercise, etc...

Dr. Says T Is Too High

I don't see how your test is too high since you're in the 35 percentile. The doc must be concerned about your free test which is still within range or the fact that it is converting too much into estrogen. It kind of sounds like a thyroid issue. As I advise most people that ask me about my own...

Low DHEA high normal testosterone on cypianate

I have read about the backfilling theory and it sounds logical. My doc's theory is that since pregnenolone and DHEA are precursors to testosterone, taking exogenous testosterone eliminates the need for the precursors. I took both DHEA (50 mg) and pregnenolone (50 & 100)mg and didn't notice any...

    Low-normal levels and trt

T levels can fluctuate significantly throughout the day. Make sure you have your blood draws done early in the morning and schedule all subsequent blood work at the same time or as close as possible. Also, differences in hormone levels are evident if your sleep or fatigue patterns the night...

    Low-normal levels and trt

I suggest you get a sleep study as a first step based on personal history. I lift rather heavy but also do cardio for 2hrs/wk. I would never have thought that I had sleep apnea without the test as I never caught myself gasping for air. Secondly, was your T3 level tested to insure proper...

How long before Androgel starts working?

Talk with your doctor about using an aromatase inhibitor to lower your estrogen. Optimally you want it around 20. Also for increased libido, take 50 mg of zinc daily as it helps the body absorb free test levels.

My case.. 28 year old striving for optimal living!

Just a heads up based on personal experience. Before embarking on the TRT path, make sure that you have a sleep study performed to check for sleep apnea as an initial step. If you have no apnea issues, make sure that you get complete blood panels to tell the whole story. I didn't see any...

    DEXA scan to detect osteopenia

Has anyone out there on testosterone therapy had a bone density scan? My doc is telling me that scans should be taken every 2 years to check bone density thus reducing the risk of osteopenia.
