How to Vet Any TRT Clinic
What separates a good TRT provider from a mediocre one
- Physician oversight (MD or DO, not just NP or PA)
- Comprehensive lab monitoring included or clearly priced
- Ability to prescribe HCG or enclomiphene alongside testosterone
- Access to compounding pharmacy options
- Transparent pricing with no surprise fees
- Dosing that reaches a therapeutic range, not just the bottom of "normal"
- Careful hematocrit management and no reflexive aromatase-inhibitor use
Where to look first
- Urologists are generally more informed on TRT than other specialties.
- Fellowship training matters: urologists trained under Dr. Larry Lipshultz (Baylor/Houston) or Dr. Abraham Morgentaler (Harvard/Boston) tend to be strong TRT prescribers.
- Naturopathic doctors can be an option for a holistic approach if affordable.
Red flags to avoid
- "Male clinics" that are marketing-focused and lean toward a pill-mill model.
- Required in-office injections, sometimes ~$400/month with 4x/month visits.
- Cookie-cutter protocols that don't individualize treatment.
- A numbers-only approach that ignores symptoms in favor of arbitrary lab ranges.
