I am taking Lexapro for some years for anxiety issues. (Only 5mg) and to counteract some its side effects I am also taking Wellbutrin 150mg.
Wellbutrin works on dopamine and norepinephrine although it is not very effective for anxiety I take it any way in order to stay more focused, boost libido and other issues etc. However, I've notice that my penis gets really small (shrunken) when flaccid which was not the case before I started taking this medication. I think it might have to do with the norepinephrine. When erected it is normal. Any tips on what I can do to counteract this besides stopping the medication?

Thx! I´ll check it out. As far as I know that medication is used for addictions of drugs and alcohol. I think my problem is not really a problem it more a esthetic thing. I was just curious about the physical affects norepinephrine have since it is similar to adrenaline.

I think I will give it up because it makes me too stressed etc...

High norepinephrine (fight flight response) causes blood to remain in core cold hands feet. No blood in your junk either (ED). Try low dose. Alpha blocker Doxasosin helps tremendously

i tried LDN for 6 months, since some folks with a muscle-wasting disease like mine have gotten better on it. sadly, not me. ymmv, obviously. maybe a 7th month would have done the trick but i doubt it.

Nutritional food choice helps many. Sometimes it's about identifying an offending food or class of foods.

Increase intake of omegas from food sources such as sardines and wild salmon. Substitute healthier choices for processed foods whch are almost always high in starch, bad high glycemeic carbs, sugar. i.e. try organic canned 100% pumpkin as a carb choice instead of anything with wheat flour.

Daily intake of L-Citrulline and 2,5mg of Cialis helps a lot. I almost have to much erections during the night, which might not be so good for the small blood vessels. It seems like everytime I wake up he is ready to go but not me.

Tommy, neurotransmitter threads are always interesting. It's possible you may be among the infinitesimal minority of Lexapro and Wellbutrin users who have no other options. Odds are you are not. I have personal experience with Lex (over a decade ago). The side effects were horrible even if it gave relief in certain areas. I was given Clon to offset. Low T was really the issue but of course not identified as such or properly treated. Withdrawal was rough. One day I flushed every pill down the toilet instead of tapering off. It was hell, especially because the underlying endocrine cause still had not been identified and wasn't to be for another ten years. I've never regretted that decision.

Solutions aren't to be found in a pill bottle. Nootropics can help but only as part of a holistic approach. You mention L-Citulline but what of ALCAR, NALT, and the others? The health of the body and its organs affect how we feel and function so its wise to take such things as Silymarin, ALA and NAC alongside eating well and practicing individualized techniques which help realign things.

I dislike pharmaceuticals. Nevertheless they are valuable for short term interventions and, for a select few, necessary long term. Only you can determine what is appropriate.

Word of caution: If you try aminos be sure sure to follow timing and dosing recommendations especially if you buy bulk powders. I went over the 300g/day recommendation for NALT and it wasn't fun.
