Muscle pump /strength in gym

Does getting a good pump in the gym while lifting have anything to do with testosterone levels? I know you need good blood flow to get a pump but I was wandering if having higher testosterone would lead to greater pumps in the gym.

No, higher testosterone doesn't cause better pump in the gym. Increase nitric oxide does, it widens your blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and increases blood flow.

For me, TRT did make a difference in the pump I achieved. I was a gym rat and as my T levels decreased so did my strength and eventually my desire to lift. After starting TRT my strength came back and so did my desire to lift, with more lifting came more muscle along with a better "pump".

One thing to keep in mind, Arnold Schwarzenegger was talking about the pump before science and the medical community ever even knew what Nitric Oxide does to the human body.

A lot of young man make good levels of nitric oxide, what I was young I was one of them. Very easy for me to get a pump in the gym. Now that my body doesn't make as much nitric oxide, I need a good nitric oxide stack.
 
IN and of itself No T isn't going to give you a pump. Wrapped up with better Free T, NO substrates like Citrulline, sure you're going to overall do better in a number of ways in the gym.

T in and of itself will contribute to better pumps but for most of us older guys even with NO enhancers it is not going to be as good as it used to be.

I had all but forgotten what a good muscle pump felt like until I started my trt regime this year. My workouts were night and day as well as the pump. I can't believe I went so long in pain before breaking down and getting bloodwork. The vascularity is awesome too.
 
if you would ask question for dude who used anabolic steroids (they are testosterone and testosterone derivatives) what changed in the gym after he went off he will mention i had these skin tearing pumps when ON and naturally barely any pump compared to that, strenght too. so if we compare low T and high levels of T there definitely should be better pumps and strenght

Ha yeah but that's just for one, and it being 22 years does not make it any less significant, there are plenty of studies showing this ... and plenty of anecdotal evidence. Testosterone will have positive impact on NO and pumps, for sure. Boners is more hit and miss.

Nitric oxide increases your pump in the muscle but also the erection of your penis. So I would think both go hand in hand.

Vince, there are similarities but I would not say they go hand in hand. There is a stronger influence of blood flow and NO with your penis. The penis is more purely a cardiovascular indicator. In the muscles this is also important, but there is also the role of glycogen loading, which unfortunately declines with age, but is restored to a degree with TRT. When the muscles load and utilize glycogen for short-term energy, this contributes greatly to the localized pump sensation.

Vince if i remember correctly you take thyroid medication along with trt. Have you noticed a difference in muscle pump while taking thyroid medication?

I've been on thyroid meds for a long time, too long to notice a difference.
 
I am new to this whole gym thing. I always got my exersize by doing stuff outdoors. I joined a gym 8 months ago and now go 4 times a week.
I don't think TRT has helped me at the gym while exersizing but it sure helps in recovery.
I know what hard exersize feels like and how long it used to take me to recover. I recover in 24 hours these days.
So I guess in the long run since I am not sore for very long I can go back to the gym sooner.

Appreciated your post on nitric oxide stack, I followed it and at the age of 53, the pumps I am getting at gym are first class
I never thought I could gain muscle the way I am at this age

@ JayLay, So this might be a clue to your issues. You have already found out your T lvl's are fine and DHEA did not work fo so maybe you have issues making NO.
