I was sent to do blood work by my regular doc as just a checkup and I requested t levels be checked just out of curiosity. I'm healthy on everything but t levels are low doc says (299). Not real sure what that means. She said I should consider going testosterone replacement doc. I just turned 40 and feel fine for the most part, not real sure where to go from here. That's all the doc said, really wasn't very informative. Now looking into it I'm even more confused.

Welcome to Excelmale. You asked for your testosterone levels to be checked "out of curiosity" - really? You had no symptoms at all? No loss of libido, excessive fatigue, erectile issues, weight gain? There were no symptoms of any sort? I ask because you are certainly presenting with a total testosterone level that suggests you are hypogonadal. And more power to your primary care doctor for not dismissing your test results. By urging you to see a specialist she acted with more skill than many of the doctors we here at EM have encountered or read of. You certainly need a lot more blood work, and you need to start educating yourself on hypogonadism. There's a lot of information here on the Forum, particularly in the sticky posts in each respective folder. Read, think, ask questions. Be an active member and your own advocate. Let us know a bit more about what you're dealing with and the discussion will prove valuable.

CW has it right; it is imperative that you learn the basics of TRT before you start any TRT protocol. There are a number of banners here where you can get books that are written by some of the top minds in TRT for men.

Also this site and the forums has all that you need to learn as well.

Finally, ask your Doctor if she is trained in the latest testosterone replacement medical management. This is very very important because even though she was open to test your testosterone serum levels and know that your levels are low there are many other things that she needs to know BEFORE administering a TRT protocol and what she needs needs to monitor once you start.

Once you start to learn you will understand this as it's very important or you could end up in an even worse place.

If you don't have any symptoms of low testosterone, I wouldn't start TRT.
This basic questionnaire can be very useful for men to describe the kind and severity of their low testosterone symptoms.

1. Do you have a decrease in libido (sex drive)? Yes No
2. Do you have a lack of energy? Yes No
3. Do you have a decrease in strength and/or endurance? Yes No
4. Have you lost height? Yes No
5. Have you noticed a decreased "enjoyment of life" Yes No
6. Are you sad and/or grumpy? Yes No
7. Are your erections less strong? Yes No
8. Have you noticed a recent deterioration in your ability to play sports? Yes No
9. Are you falling asleep after dinner? Yes No
10. Has there been a recent deterioration in your work performance? Yes No

If you answered Yes to number 1 or 7 or if you answer Yes to more than 3 questions, you may have low Testosterone.
