Just wanting to see if my blood work is within range on both hematocrit and hemoglobin. My hematocrit is sitting in the midrange but my hemoglobin is in the upper range. What would be the difference?
They measure two different aspects of the blood. Hematocrit reports the percentage of red cells in your blood. Hemoglobin is a protein molecule that carries oxygen throughout the body.
Hematocrit is the percent of total blood volume taken up by red blood cells. Hemoglobin is a substance inside red blood cells that transports oxygen to tissues. Usually hematocrit is three times hemoglobin but that may change in men who donate blood due to polycthemia.
