Why is 200 mg/wk the "upper limit" for TRT?

Hello I am new to this site and curious about my trt therapy. My levels originally were 245 and that got me prescribed with help of insurance. I started exactly 15 weeks ago and they have me at 100 mg a week. I had my blood work done 3 weeks ago and my test level was 640. I'm wandering if that is good for me or if it should be higher? I wanted to jump start this process by doing a cycle of 200mg a week for 10 weeks. Could you guys help me out? For one like I said I had my blood work done 3 weeks ago so I'm guess she won't need me to get them again as of now. Hence I bumped up my dosage of the test cyp to 200 mg per week and I split it 100 mg twice a week. I was going to use one bottle and do a 10 week cycle then go back to .5 mg per week split twice a week. Thoughts and or pointers would be appreciated

There's no jump start, but 100mg is what we would call a start or minimal HRT dose. No way you should have doubled that though there's really nothing "wrong" with 100mg twice per week, at any rate this isn't about cycles or "steroids"....HRT is something different and we don't deal in cycles or steroids here.

Thoughts?

MY thoughts are you need to learn WTF you are doing before you mess your self up.

As VC said, There is no "jumpstart" or "cycle" in trt.

What do you think 200mg for 10 weeks would achieve?

Ok well thanks for the reply. I joined the site to get some feedback and to "learn". I guess I should know more before I joined so I didn't get smart ass answers. To what AV said there's really nothing wrong with 200mg per week. Will I not notice a difference between 100 and 200mg per week. Guess I shouldn't of used the word "cycle" . My question then is "my previous Level before therapy was 245. I'm 34 years old. Is 645 a level I should be happy with being on trt or should the doseage be increased to get better levels"? Thanks

How do you feel? If you feel good at 645, then leave it be. Was the 645 reading at a peak or trough? If at a trough, then your probably in the 900 range for a peak.

Spend HOURS reading things around here. It's a never ending supply of knowledge. Sorry for my smart ass answer.

Appreciate that. My libido is still very low. The doctor put me on viagra. As far as energy it's better but not what I thought it would be. I feel like im more on edge then I should be. In all I feel like I have definitely noticed some changes but there are still things that haven't improved at all. Also when the doctor had me get blood work recently, I had taken the shot the day before.

Did the doctor ask for a peak reading? Why did you have blood work the day after the shot? Usually we measure through levels, doing blood work on the day of injection, right before the shot. That way you can measure your lowest point of the week, and decide if those levels (Tot T and free T) are enough to keep you at healthy levels.

I'm not sure. I'll have to ask her. My main concern is that if I'm goin to be on this therapy that I'm benefiting to the fullest. I have an appt Monday. Are there questions or concerns that I should bring up to make sure this is going the right way. I've read a lot about doctors that really don't have the knowledge they should prescribing TRT. Any pointers would help

I can tell you definitively that this Dr has you one the wrong pathway and doesn't have the knowledge to be treating you, effectively. Curious dosing and timing, the same with your blood tests. It's a path for frustration at best, failure at worst.

Ideally what should I be telling this doctor I want done? Tests? I still have no libido unless I take viagra. Is there a better fix to that? Does my test need to be higher? Your saying I should have blood work done the day I give myself injection?

The simple version is that most of us inject at a minimum every 3.5 days of about 60mg each time, 120mg per week. Individuals vary up to 140 or even 160, but 120 is a good start point. Blood tests are always done right before the next injection as we want to see th trough or lowest point. Then there's use of HCG, too...read much much more and then make your own thread.

Vince in your opinion does a higher dose of testosterone effect preserving fertility when on hcg?

As has been noted elsewhere, exogenous testosterone will always shut down your body's production. I inject 16mg daily and was totally shut down in a matter of two and one-half weeks. An HCG protocol will maintain fertility.
