Question on Androgel

I have been on some sort of TRT for 1 year, started with trochies & did shots. I started Androgel 3 months ago & I wanted to see if there was a difference going off of it. So I decided to stop for 1 week, I could feel each day getting more tired & more tired by the 7th day I felt like a complete slug. I was irritable & impatient so my wife told me you are getting back on that stuff tomorrow =*) is that normal to feel a crash like that just being off androgel for 7 days? & if so how long does it take to build back up the energy level? It seems since starting it back up for a week it is slowly getting better, the crash happened faster than going back up.

Does this sound about right?

Thanks,
Kurt

Daily dosing of gels shuts down your own production just like any other t therapy. When you remove the daily dosing you quickly burn through the testosterone and unfortunately it takes your body a lot more time than that to start again, if it will on it's own. I say yep the way you feel is normal when coming off.

Kurt,
The crash you felt was absolutely normal. I went through the exact same thing when I stopped after three months. You don't say why you stopped, but I did because it gradually stopped working. I started to think the dosage of 7 grams was to low and my HIV doc who at the time knew nothing about testosterone was very reluctant to up the dosage. After reading Nelson's BUILT TO SURVIVE and getting educated I then in turn started an education process with my doc. I've been on 10 grams per day for the past 8 months and feel great and my doc is now very willing to work with me.

Yes, I remember that week long crash process. I spent my days moving back and forth between the bed and recliner. I was grumpy as hell and fortunately because I'm single there was no one to get snappy with!

For me, once I started back on the gel it took about a week before I started feeling normal again. Try it again and good luck!

Not that this has to be a big discussion, but why on earth would you come off a prescribed medication that's working for you?

To answer your question about a year ago, I felt like crap & could hardly hold my fork up to my mouth to eat Christmas dinner. I wasn't impressed with my own doctor so I went to a well known Naturpath who did my blood work. When we got the blood work back she determined that my thyroid was off & my T was low & I was put on Trochies & Tapazole. Long story short of it is that I don't think she really knew what she was doing with the testosterone therapy & left me unmonitored. I had another blood test months later & my Total T was 1500 & I still felt like crap & had no energy.

So I started going to an Endo & he put me on shots, but I dont care for needles & my wife would pin me & hit a nerve in my leg once that was all it took to put me on gels. I am still fighting fatigue constantly when everyone tells me my labs look perfect, I know something is wrong & I think very strongly that its still my thyroid, but finding an Endo who treats symptoms & not just goes by ranges is near impossible to find. So here I am completely frustrated by all this shit I have been dealing with for over a year & not feeling any better. Brain fog, impaired vision are the worst symptoms & I have been to 3 different eye specialists who find nothing wrong with my eyes. I have seen 3 different psychiatrists because my own PCP said he thinks its all in my head & they said no there is no depression but I have alot of anxiety from trying to figure out what is going on with me & prescribed me a low dose of Klonopin to help with the anxiety. Meanwhile I just feel like crap, tired all the time. I am 47 years old 185 lbs & have no stress but autoimmune disease runs in my family history, my mom had RA & Grandmother died of Parkinsons. My wife said I just need to be patient & wait for the other shoe to drop to see what is going on with me. It's very tough just waiting, I was hoping the testosterone would help & I think it does with giving me the boost of energy but it has not fixed whatever is wrong, just gives me the energy to keep moving. I am or used to be very active, I played racquetball 2-3 days a week & went to the gym but now I just ride mountain bikes in the hills for my workouts which absolutely kicks my ass.

So I was getting frustrated & my old endo retired & I found a new one who ran labs on me they looked like this, I was dissapointed he didnt run a T3 with the other labs. So with that frustration I just said screw it & I dropped the T for one week which I thoroughly regret now.

These were taken 2 weeks ago.
Prolactin 5.47 (2.5-17.0)
Testosterone 319.0 (200-810 ng/dl)
SHBG 47.1 (13.7-71.0)
FAI 23.5 (14.8-94.8 nmol/L)
DHEA-SO4 173 (80-560 ug/dl)
Cortisol 14.70 (5.0-25.0 ug/dl)

Here are my original labs back in 12/20/2012 when they prescribed tapazole & testosterone supplement. This is when I could barely function, I could hardly hold a fork up to my mouth & had absolutely no energy. This came on so fast & went from feeling 100% to 10% in a matter of a month.

Free T3 3.1 (2.4-3.9) pg/ml
Free T4 1.1 (0.58-1.64) ng/dl

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
