Test time....
What is the bottom line.....
Here:
Conclusions

Boron has been proven to be an important trace mineral because it
(1) is essential for the growth and maintenance of bone;
(2) greatly improves wound healing;
(3) beneficially impacts the body's use of estrogen, testosterone, and vitamin D;
(4) boosts magnesium absorption
(5) reduces levels of inflammatory biomarkers, such as hs-CRP and TNF-α;
(6) raises levels of antioxidant enzymes, such as SOD, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase;
(7) protects against pesticide-induced oxidative stress and heavy-metal toxicity
(8) improves brain electrical activity, cognitive performance, and short-term memory in elders;
(9) influences the formation and activity of key biomolecules, such as SAM-e and NAD[SUP]+[/SUP];
(10) has demonstrated preventive and therapeutic effects in a number of cancers, such as prostate, cervical, and lung cancers and multiple and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma; and
(11) may help ameliorate the adverse effects of traditional chemotherapeutic agents.
Americans' daily dietary intake of boron was estimated to be approximately 1 mg/d in 1999.
In none of the numerous studies conducted to date, however, do boron's beneficial effects appear at intakes of less than 3 mg/d.
No EARs or DRIs have been set for boron; only a UL of 20 mg/d for individuals aged 18 years or older.
The absence of studies showing harm in conjunction with the substantial number of articles showing benefits support the consideration of boron supplementation of 3 mg/d for any individual who is consuming a diet low in fruits and vegetables or who is at risk for or has osteopenia; osteoporosis; OA; or breast, prostate, or lung cancer.
If you have not read the report I suggest you do.
VERRRRRRY interesting......

All the studies were done with calcium fructoborate.
Now to find good source that does not cast an arm and leg...

Going to do base line labs on Wend.
FT
TT
PSA
Magnesium RBC
E2
Will start Boron 3mg AM and 3mg PM after blood work and re-test in 30 days or so.
Found this brand that is reasonable (cost) and is the Calcium Fructoborate that was used in the studies.

O.K. Plan is to start at 3mg/day with basic initial labs done this Wends.
FT
TT
PSA
Magnesium RBC
E2
If I was rich I would add additional labs but too much pain ($$$$$$)
Will take 3mg/day for a month and retest...
Then start 6mg/day for a month and retest....

Ordered and on its way...
I had looked at:
https://www.naturesway.com/Health-Interests/Digestion
But was not sure what type of Born it was, etc.
Wrote to the company and here is what they said:
************************************************************************
"You would like to know more information about the amino acids complex in this product.
Boron helps prevent loss of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus through the urine.* It also supports proper blood levels of estradiol - a precursor to estrogen.* Boron is chelated using rice and soy flour. The amino acids from the rice and soyflours are alanine, glycine, methionine, tryptophane, arginine, histidine,phenylalanine, tyrosine, aspartic acid, isoleucine, proline, valine, cysteine,leucine, serine, glutamine, lysine, threonine. This formula is not the same as calcium fructoborate."
********************************************************************************
I have no idea what they said, but the one I ordered is the calcium fructoborate.
More to follow.

As the naturally occurring mineral sodium borate, aka 20 Mule Team Borax
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax

or 30 bucks for a jar of capsules with nothing more than a lick or promise of any actual boron inside.

Tough choice.

I did try 20 Mule team borax for a month. Take 5 grams and dilute with 1 liter water, then take 1-2 teaspoons of the concentrated water. A teaspoon is about 3 mg.

Has a brackish taste. I suppose a 4 lb box would last me at least ~ 90 years. :eek:

It feels a little weird, and I can't get my wife to try it, so easier to buy a bottle of pills.

Initial labs are in but look a little wonky.
Normally I use LabCorp, but as I was using a Quest RBC Magnesium test from Quest I ran the TT, FT PSA with Quest labs.
The sensitive E2 was with Labcorp.
***************************
QUEST
FT = 67 - (35- 155 pg/ml)
TT = 573 - (250 - 1100 pg/ml) LC/MS/MS
PSA = 4.4
RBC MAGNESIUM = 4.7 - (4 - 6.4 mg/dl)
***********************
LABCORP
SENSITIVE E-2 = 16 - (8 - 35 PG/ML)
************************

I will run the same test in a month.
Then add 3mg more of Boron and run the test again after 30 more days.
The TT looks low. I do daily TD cream and I am now wondering if I forgot to apply the day before labs, meaning 2 days with no TD cream?

Crash Test Dummy signing back in...
Ran labs on 6-7-2018
ALL test were done through QUEST.
It appears that I got confused and doubled my Boron dose so these test will be at 6mg Boron.
It appears that prior "T" test was correct and it was at trough from day before application.
This test looks like I forgot to apply the TD cream the day before labs, so 2 days trough.
*****************************
QUEST
FT = 46.6 - (35- 155 pg/ml)
TT = 340 - (250 - 1100 pg/ml) LC/MS/MS
PSA = 4.1
RBC MAGNESIUM = 4.3 - (4 - 6.4 mg/dl)
***********************
I added some additional labs:
***********************
SHBG = 52 - (22 - 77 nmol/l) (Last test was 66.2 on 1-12-2018)
E2, sensitive = 25 - (< OR = 29 pg/ml)
Selenium = 144 - (63 - 160 mcg/l) (I had added in LE Super Selenium Complex)
*********************
FT3 = 3.6 - (2.3 - 4.2 pg/ml) (68% of range)
FT4 = 1.2 - (0.8 - 1.8 ng/dl) (40% of range)
RT3 = 27 - (8 - 25 ng/dl)
**********************
Iron, Total = 131 - (50 - 180 mcg/dl)
% Saturation - 35 - (15 - 60)
TIBC = 379 - (250 - 425 mcg/dl)
Ferritin = 45 - (20 - 380 ng/ml) (Near the bottom of range! - I do get reeeeealy tired after lunch. Started taking one Source Naturals Advanced Ferrochel @ 27mg iron)
***********************
FT4 is low, and if I add more NDT my FT3 ends up top of range or higher. NOT GOOD!
I am hoping that the Selenium and iron will help.
Have also started taking some Milk Thistle Powder (Silymarin) to see if that may help thyroid labs.
