Hello to everyone here at ExcelMale. It is a pleasure to be part of your community, and to see such a great collaboration of talent within this forum!

A quick intro and some background ... I am Chris, I am 47yo, married and living in So. Cal. Shortly after turning 40, I really started going through a dark tunnel with my health and well being. I had a liver biopsy that confirmed that I was a carrier for hemochromatosis; having extremely high iron levels and a ferritin reading >1,400. I was dealing with a myriad of other issues, including constant fatigue, no libido, no mental focus; basically my well being was in the tank.

It was shortly thereafter that I was also diagnosed with secondary hypogonadism. At the time it sounded like a pretty easy fix ... Well, not so easy, I was in the same boat as many, whereas my female GP was not all that versed in the proper treatment of HRT, and the Endocrinologist that I was referred to was (sad to say) several steps below her, but twice the ego. So it was an initial trial and error, one (1) injection to last three (3) weeks, no E2 evaluation, "HCG is for Manny Ramirez" bit, ... Lots of the same things that many of you have incurred on your personal journeys.

It was at/around 6 months of going through that jazz before I decided that the only person that's going to pull me through this ordeal is "me". I knew my medical team was not fulfilling my requirements for optimal hormonal treatment. I knew two (2) things were going to be pertinent with my success in this journey ... 1) A solid physician/clinic that could effectively and professionally treat my condition(s) ... 2) The educational ramp-up on my part with getting versed with hormones and the endocrine system, along with the supporting variables of a functional diet, exercise, supplements, and taking the steps to discover a new balance with it all.

It was then that a whole new chapter of my life began! It's been an interesting journey to say the least, yet quite challenging to reach deeper, learn more, and as a good friend of mine says quite often, "pay it forward." I go back quite a bit with several of the members here, and again, the talent pool is unreal here! It's an honor to be part of your community, and I look forward to learning from some of the best minds on the Net!

Hi Nelson, it's an honor to chat with you. Your work is iconic!

My primary HRT care is with Dr. V. Disanto in NJ, which I also collaborate with my GP here in So Cal. Fortunately, my GP decided a couple years ago that she needed to get more progressive in this area of medicine, and she was humble enough to admit that "Kaiser" is not up to speed in this area. She has seen the vast improvements it has made in my life, and surprisingly she tends to pick my brain constantly about the variables associated with all of this. Doing my homework and gaining knowledge from many of the innovative minds (such as yourself) over the years has given me the tools to talk with her at a different level, which in turn has paid dividends with her support in conjunction with Dr. Disanto.

The hemo subject is actually real easy to control. Blood donations every two (2) months keeps that in check, and my iron and ferritin is now optimal (ferritin in the 150 range). However, not knowing this for all of these years has caused some issues and taken a bit of a toll. I started getting arthritis at a young age. My physicians are pretty certain that was a result of the iron build-up. My liver and kidneys also took some beatings with this. Eating correctly and not drinking is not just a lifestyle choice, but in my case it's also a necessity. All is good though, I had plenty of years living on the edge :)

any chelation therapy that can be done? I bet you can not take too much sun either.

Nelson, unfortunately chelation treatment wasn't even put on the table, since technically I am only a carrier with a single hereditary mutated gene. I believe it's known better as the HFE Gene. There are variances in ferritin levels within my family; ranging from 400 with one of my brothers, to 700-800 with my day (the culprit), but mine being the highest over 1,400. Again, since they couldn't tag both genes on me with the biopsy, believe it or not the specialists that I was referred to just sent me packing, said I'm fine. I had to basically figure out a mono plan to manage this, my GP being supportive of course, but not overly in the know. On the sun ... I use MelanotanII during the summer and vacation time (works great!).
