Weaning Off Cialis--Pros/Cons?

As my hormones are getting dialed in, I am requiring less Cialis daily. My next stop would be 2.5 per day, which did not work prior to TRT.

So, I am at a point where I have to decide if the psychological angst of stopping is worth the trouble.

Pros to quitting Cialis, whether physically or mentally? Not having to worry about having it on trips would be one, as well as one less drug in my body. I cannot find any studies indicating that a tolerance builds. If effectiveness decreases, it is usually secondary to the underlying condition worsening (e.g., CVD or diabetes). I am only 40, so I could perhaps have 40 more years of taking this stuff, though new drugs will surely emerge in that time.

Cons: Short term psychological stress is the most acute. Are there any physiological benefits I would be giving up?

In addition to erectile support, the reason all of us started using Cialis, it has multiple anti-aging benefits that are becoming better understood. With that said, if you don't need a drug to maintain an erection, I'd set it aside.

I would probably try, not using it for a while and see how it goes. I have cut down my dose, I do have to deal with the psychological effect of not using as much.

The psychological effect is what has stopped me in the past, and I have yet to find a psychologist that can help me past it.

I have been to three different sex therapists. The first only kept telling me it was performance anxiety, so not to worry about, but offered no strategies to help in the moment when anxiety builds. The second gave me erotic videos and said if I loose my erection, just sexually engage via other means, which is okay, but still does not engage the issue. The 3rd said it is not erections, but communication issues, and wanted to talk about my time in the army and Freud.

I am pretty confident I can do without; I get erections at night without using it, as I have tested it on trips away from my lady.

So, if anyone has a therapist that does Skype sessions that has worked with this specific issue, then I am open to it.

Jake from everything that you said, it sounds like you're ready to go without the Cialis. I would go for it, if you decide just to do it without the Cialis and without the psychologist, let us know.
I always start slow, I like to touch my lady a lot. It really turns me on, feeling a woman's body. I'm probably posted too much, I'm sure you get the idea.
Peace brother

How long have you used it?
As needed from September to January, and then daily at varying doses to now. I say varying because during the Clomid restart, I had to ratchet it up to 25mg per day to work. Now 5mg per night at bedtime ensures I can respond throughout the night and the next morning.

So, to your question, approximately 9 months.

I am much older than you are, I'll be 60 in January, and have used it for a couple of years, currently at the two year mark. I was surprised that, as my protocol unfolded, I was able to cut back from 20mg twice weekly to 5mg daily. I am not at all sure I actually need it, but the anti-aging aspects of the drug, confirmed, not internet myth, are enough for me to continue on it. If I were your age, I'd give it a good-faith effort to set it aside.

I am unfamiliar with the phychological stress you gents are discussing. What are the anti aging benefits you all speak of. Please educate me.

In the last few months alone there have been reports of Tadalafil's benefits in patients with pulmonary hypertension (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26989105), as an adjunctive medication in men with premature ejaculation (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26981497), and lower urinary tract symptoms/pathologies. I read those and marked them because they showed daily use of this drug provides so much more than erectile support. And that's a sampling. Search PubMed -there's plenty out there.

The psychological reasons for ED are vastly overestimated. It was once thought that ED, or impotence as it was once called were mostly psychological. Dr. Abraham Morganthaler, in a book on the subject, estimates that the rate of psychological problems vs physical is around 20%

I've been taking 5mg as a result of the info from guys who posted on this thread. I think if I was younger, I'd refrain from it if not needed. At my age,63, I think the low dose is the way to go with a daily dose. Why not? Good to be ready for sex and good sex is a great anti-aging activity in itself.

People interested in the overall health benefits of the viagra-like drugs will want to read Dr. Kendrick's take here, especially the statistics on reduction in CV issues that it appears to produce....

Very interesting and encouraging article. I've been taking cialis 5mg daily for a month and believe it is beneficial. This article makes me wonder if it has any positive impact on hematocrit. It mentions anticoagulant properties.

Does anyone know how hematocrit is impacted if at all?

Update:

I reduced my dosage of Cialis from 5 mg daily to 2.5 mg daily for 12 days, and everything worked well. I have been off completely for 4 days, so while it is not completely out of my system, it is well below therapeutic levels.

What I have noticed so far:
1) I am much less "full" when soft, which I, and my lady, had grown to like;

2) I can still "perform," but it takes much longer to become erect and it is a tenuous erection. That is to say, the minute there is no stimulation, I begin to go soft, and then have to work to (maybe) regain it. This is where the mind **** begins, because I still have mental scars from before TRT regarding losing erections during sex.

3) I am less sensitive, which means Cialis was helping in that department.

I will keep at it and update in case others attempt to go this route.
