What age is "normal" for a healthy man's sexual function to begin to decline? I always thought it would be like age 55 or so.

At age 43 here, I have the "I don't feel like I used to" feeling a lot of the time now. This has surprised me because I have had excellent sexual function my entire life and am still healthy! But sexual function has changed a bit in the last year or two for the worse. I didn't expect this.

I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't watch porn, have 13% body fat, pretty active, eat healthy, have a healthy long-term relationship, etc.

I have decent natural lab levels too (I have never been on TRT). The last lab came back 702 TT, 14.9 FT (direct), 425 DHEA, 4.6 Prolactin, 24.5 Estradiol Sensitive, 64 DHT, although my SHBG is on the higher end, usually in the high 40s.

I rarely have morning erections anymore. While I don't have ED, my erections aren't as good all the time like they used to be. I don't have delayed orgasm, but some days it takes longer and isn't as intense. My libido and interest are certainly still there, but I don't feel the uncontrollable drive to pursue sex like I used to. Even the pleasurable sensation from something like touch or a massage isn't as great as it used to be. Also my penis when flacid feels different, less full, almost somewhat shriveled. My scrotum is even a little saggier.

Everything still works alright I guess, but it's just not like it was when I was 30 or 35 or even 40. It seems my sexual function started declining just after age 40, but I didn't realize it at the time. It took until I was about 42 to realize something had changed.

The more I talk with guys my age, the more I hear and suspect what's happening to me is the norm rather than the exception. Is this true? Or are these changes happening earlier than normal for me?

If I started degrading in my early 40s, I am concerned about what my 50s will be like.

I know it's probably a little different for everyone, but any thoughts or feedback on this?

Congratulations and welcome to the exclusive club.

Maybe these will comfort you:

have a healthy long-term relationship,

My libido and interest are certainly still there, but I don't feel the uncontrollable drive to pursue sex like I used to.

**Disclaimer: completely a thought experiment. Don't try this at home. **

====
200 mg/week of Testosterone Cypionate with 200 mg/week of nandrolone decanoate or if you are really feeling adventurous 200 mg/week of trenbolone acetate.
====

Good everyday "anti-aging" protocol.

Should completely fix those **problems**. :)

End Disclaimer **

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I can attest to that.

There are likely almost no truly healthy men in industrialized cultures so answering the question above would require looking at the few remaining non-industrial tribes. It would be interesting to know. I remember reading that they don't suffer nearly the hormone declines that we do but when they do decline I don't know. Hopefully someone here does. Nevertheless, we have to deal with what we have and look on the bright side which is that in many cases we can treat ourselves and reverse declines.

Interesting articles, thank you. So I take it the changes I described in my post are normal to happen sometime in one's 40s (for men in the industrialized world) and are not necessarily early "andropause" or necessarily an issue with my body's systems, but rather something most every man in the industrialized world experiences in their 40s plus or minus a few years?

I just feel it's about 10-12 years too early, but that's why I am interested in others' feedback and experience on this.

If I were you I would consider adding in some Viagra and Cialis. It should lower your estrogen and increase your testosterone also. Hopefully it will increase your libido.

this has to do with biology / ability to have kids. notice that a woman peaks in her most 'pretty' years, which has to do with being able to birth and care for kids (18-30max). for a guy this is longer, but doesn't last forever. sex primary goal is pro-creation (even if western 'society' tells you different). I am your age, and libido comes and goes, and I think it is ok. there is no need to ramp it up to un-natural levels, although this is definitely possible through various means (hormones, vasodilation, weight loss, diet etc). I keep my T up at good levels, try to eat well (keto for me), exercise and things are pretty smooth/balanced.

At one time I experienced a similar situation. I am 69 years old and my wife of 50 years and I have sex on a regular basis. We have found that keeping our Nitric Oxide levels elevated makes all the difference in the world. Somewhere on this forum is a list of supplements you can take to boost your N.O. levels.
