Is anyone here on TRT after having their prostate removed? Successful? Unsuccessful?

I had my prostate removed 2.5 months ago and would love to get back on TRT. My T levels are extremely low and my urologist is not a fan of TRT. I'm 50 years old and was in excellent shape until 6 months ago when I got the cancer diagnosis. I stopped TRT and stopped going to the gym. For some reason I just can't get enough ambition to workout.

Have you had any side effects from having your prostate removed? any incontinence , erection issues, or ejaculation issues?

Yes to all 3.
As far as incontinence goes, it's pretty good now. I don't have to wears pads anymore but holding it is not an option. If I urinate every 1 to 2 hours I have no issues. I only have to get up about twice a night as long as I stop drinking liquids by 8pm. I'm told this will get better and I'm doing great 2.5 months after surgery.

No erections yet. I've been taking 10mg of cialis in the morning and 10mn at night since the catheter was removed. I feel life down there but no full erections yet. Before my surgery all I had to do was think about sex and 1 minute later I was rock hard.

Sadly once the prostate is removed, ejaculations will never happen again. I'm really really really going to miss that. lol

I firmly believe T will help with most of my issues but I'm kinda on the fence about it. Part of me worries about the cancer returning and part of me thinks that living lethargic, depressed, moody and my gut is getting huge is no way to live. I guess T just made my life great and without it I feel like shit.

All and all I'm in good spirits and hopefully cancer free. I have my first PSA test July 8th.

I thought once the prostate was removed, you can urinate like a 15 year old with a very strong stream???
as far as ejaculation, does it still feel the same, just nothing comes out?

The urology world is split on this issue. Some support TRT with a cancer diagnosis and some don't. Dr. Abraham Morganthaler is among those that are open to it.

I haven't listened to this particular lecture. I have listened to him elsewhere though. I don't know if he is referring to someone with current cancer or someone like you that is apparently post cancer.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably be leaning towards taking TRT. But it is a tough decision either way.

BTW, Congrats on having a functional penis. Prostate surgery would scare the bejesus out of me for fear that it wouldn't work afterwards.

Read the work of John Mulhall on Saving Your Sex Life with one chapter on TRT. I have been on TRT for about 6 months now and using a vacuum pump has restored full erections along with an amazing rise in my libido! I am getting my blood levels checked every 3 months now but all looks good. I suggest you meet with him in person.

I'm on TRT despite a prostate cancer diagnosis (before TRT). No surgery or radiation for me - just doing active surveillance.

I highly recommend it. I think the majority of enlightened urologists and oncologists are in the Dr. Morgentaler camp. My PSA levels have remained steady while on TRT.

That's great news. I'm holding off until I get my first PSA test. If everything looks good I'll probably go back on T.

I'm in the same boat. I was on TRT and stopped because of prostate cancer diagnosis. Already 23 months with my PSA on 0.001 and I will like to go back on TRT. My Drs. are not fans of TRT. I still doing my gym but it's not the same. ED is all over me. I'm going personally to Defy Med to see their opinion.

I'm going to see my TRT doctor right after I leave my urologist office. Not sure if he will help me or not.

Please let me know what Defy says.

Glad to hear your surgery went well.

Does not help your situation of having to deal with low T.

Healthy testosterone levels are critical to men's health/overall well-being.

Although the use of PDE5i will enhance/improve erectile function underlying vascular health is critical let alone healthy T levels are needed to experience the full beneficial effects.

Testosterone and more importantly its metabolites estradiol and DHT are critical not only for libido/erectile function but overall health (brain, cardiovascular, bone, metabolic, immune system, body composition).

Definitely, a big decision when it comes to hopping back on trt.

I have posted numerous threads on here regarding testosterone/prostate.

Here is one of the more recent papers.
