I’ve been reading up on stem cell treatments for rotator cuff repair. Has anyone here undergone stem cell treatments for shoulders or anything else? It’s very expensive but seem absolutely remarkable.

I had both hips, both knees and a thumb joint injected last summer. I had to go offshore for cultured (multiplied) stem cells. The jury is still out, but by some measures the results are impressive. Before the procedure, at my worst, walking down stairs was excruciating, and I could not put on pants standing up. Now I am much less limited. Trying to quantify it, pre-procedure the pain level would regularly peak at 7-8 out of 10, resulting in a fair degree of debilitation. Now it's more like 4-5.

I express reservations due to the high cost, and because I haven't ramped up my training—cycling—to pre-procedure intensity. That will be the acid test.

thanks for sharing your experience. I’m waaaaay over due for a vacation and may plan a vacation around a place where I can get a shoulder treatment for a reasonable price. The pain only peaks at like a 4 but is always at like a 2.

I just got back from a consultation with Regenexx of Raleigh, NC. A national operation. I have a full tear (1.1 x 1.1 cm) of of the supraspinatus at the enthesis and a small interstitial tear of the infraspinatus. These are two of the 3 tendons that make up the rotator cuff. I will be 71 in May. the Doc. was very honest and said that with that degree of tear along with my age he would put the chance of fixing my shoulder was less that 25%. Cost was $6,700.
I had already been to a shoulder specialist at Duke and he said he thought he could fix it but I was put off by the long recovery time. I have a farm and ride horses etc and didn't want to be out of commission for the proposed recovery time. Thus my interest in stem cell therapy. Even with stem cell, if it worked you still have a pretty long recovery period where you can't be active. Therefor, I have decided to go with the operation this coming winter. Hope this helps some. Oh yea, 70% of people my age have some degree of rotor cuff tear just due to wear and tear (not due to a fall etc). Hope this helps.

I suffered a massive rotator cuff tear eleven years ago. I experienced full thickness tears through the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and subscapularis tendons and a 50% tear through the teres minor tendon. The labrum in glenoid cavity was also torn. The first orthopedic surgeon who operated on my shoulder was not up the job. His repair did not work and I wound up with adhesive capsulitus to boot. That is when I was referred to Anand Murthi. What he did for me was nothing short of a miracle. He removed the hardware the first surgeon used, freed my shoulder, performed allograft surgery, and treated the injury with stem cells. I wound up getting more than 90% of normal range of motion back. Not even he could believe how well I recovered. I entered his office with a 30% chance of recovering any significant range of motion. It was a crippling injury. I do not know where you live, but Anand Murthi is the guy you want to see.

I also have consulted with a Regenexx physician. I have an 8mm full thickness tear in my supraspinatus plus a 50% partial thickness tear. She thinks I’m a good candidate. The he cost is &6,500. I’ll probably do it but I need to wait until I have time to take it easy for recovery.

I have injected my knees twice. Now after some warmup sets I can do 3 sets of 10 reps at 590 pounds on the angled leg press (plus the base weight of the platform, however much that is. My wife uses stem cells in her med spa, and she also uses them in co junction with low intensity shockwave therapy for ED treatment. Think PRO, but much better.

Thanks! I'm starting to feel as though maybe success should be judged simply as an indefinite deferral of any joint replacement. In the case of one hip the degree of debilitation made this an imminent possibility.

I should mention that it was Regenxx who did my procedures.

Regenexx has a blog which I think is a good resource. Naturally, there is a conflict of interest in the direction of stem cells, but it is one of the few resources I have found that lays out the downsides of surgery, or at least raises questions for further research. It also gives some information on the scams which are out there, although I think there is some unjustified bashing of other treatments. The series on meniscus issues for example has been quite enlightening for me. I also don't think they give appropriate coverage to peptide therapies but no source is perfect. The blog is here:

Recently there has been a lot of CV coverage as there has been everywhere, but the older posts are almost exclusively on orthopedic issues.

My stem cell experience:

2yrs ago
>Both shoulders, torn ligaments, worn out, arthritis:
>Went to Regenexx, completely healed could go back to boxing, lifting etc

>Upper cervical spine. I'll spare you all the details, though MRI showed a lot of damage
>Went to RMI Texas, completely healed could once again go back to sports

Guys the pain was so bad that i would wake up at night. These stem cells work! For my body parts
the stem cells were derived from my own bone marrow aspirate.

>Received 300M stem cells in an IV for systemic wellness
>25M on my scalp for re growth
>10M on my face

Location: Guadalajara, MX

Again, crazy results, i can't quantify what the IV does/did other than i feel freaking amazing and i can train hard and don't get sore period. What else? My housekeeper told me that i was glowing 1 week after getting the stem cells on my face.

Going back for more next week!
