Progesterone is something typically overlooked by guys. I read that at least in women reduced levels are the most significant cause of skin aging after sun exposure. Guys on TRT frequently have suppressed levels, so it's worth measuring and considering how to normalize if low.

These findings suggest that progesterone, like estrogen, also has beneficial effects on the skin, and may be independently protective against skin aging.

I think ergo-log has a good collection of skin health studies. For example, they had a study that showed DHEA cream had an anti-wrinkle affect. I take many things that are somewhat linked to improved skin health although intermittent low-dose rapamycin is probably the best of the known anti-aging compounds and it may have skin benefits. Bottom line is that there is almost no way to know for sure what is doing what, so I do everything I can and hope it works.

There is also a rapamycin product in cream form some of the anti-aging forums have reported positive results. Need a prescription though. I've just started on GHK-Cu cream. Using it on half of my face to see if I can notice a difference. I do believe the most important thing for the OP to consider is not add in a bunch of topical or systemic stuff. The most important thing for the skin is hydration and sun protection going forward. And you do not need expensive products for this. Also, hydrate and sun protect for at least 8 weeks and compare your skin at the end of that time. Then add in one thing at a time either systemic or topical for similar period. It's a hassle and a lot of work but if you take photos before you start and at each stage, you won't be fooled by any emotional placebo effect. Best thing for skin is hydrate and wear a full face covering starting at age 14. Take it off at 60. Viola!

I saw a video on DMSO... suggested using that and magnesium oil on the face... I used only the mag oil mixed with some good aloe Vera gel... seems to work great. Stings a little at first... I do once or twice a week, in between always using moisturizer, without all the chemicals... Kiss my face is a good inexpensive one... I add some retinol and halyuronic acid sometimes... I'm 63.

Could get it prescribed from a dermatologist.

you can get it Rx’d from your GP (assuming good relations and open to off label use) or pick it up from Mexico. Last time I was there I grabbed 0.025% for fairly cheap. Probably one of the best topicals for anti aging.

Can’t go wrong with supplemental collagen; since I started taking it daily my nails and hair grow like crazy. I don’t know if that carries over to skin elasticity, etc, but I can assume.

Vitamin C 1000mg has been a staple of mine since my 20’s (I’m 46). The anti oxidant potential and beneficial effects of driving collagen intracellar makes sense from an anti aging POV.

I recently had Botox for the first time; a friend opened a medical aesthetic clinic and I said “why not?”. She commented on my skin, saying “you have amazing skin integrity”. Maybe the supplements work, maybe it’s genetics.

There are several things you can do. First, take biotin supplement at levels of 5000 or 10000 units daily. Your nails and hair and facial skin will show some results in a few months. Second, you can take Lysine which helps collagen form faster with herpes on lip or mouth but I do not take it since I am not sure it works throughout the skin area unless there is a lesion. Third, you need a spf lotion daily. I use Oil of Olay daily moisturizer at night and morning except when my T is high and my skin gets too oily anyway. The spf blocks the sun which is a cause of aging we mostly forget about.
Just look at a long time truck driver and his left arm and left side of face will show more small brown spots than the right side due to more sun coming in. Not so common now as it was a decade ago due to the sun tinted glass and air conditioning.
I am 76 and am often mistaken for being under 65 due to my skin appearance on my facial area. I have fast growing hard nails, and my hair is very healthy with the biotin.
Don't worry, you won't overdose on it.

Here's another possible factor in skin aging: falling levels of oxytocin.[R]

ABSTRACT
Background: Studies have shown oxytocin (OT) and its carrier protein neurophysin 1 are found in the epidermis. The oxytocin receptor, which is found on human fibroblasts has been shown, when activated by oxytocin, to inhibit senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). SASP activation induces the release of proinflammatory cytokines which contribute to skin aging. Therefore, its inhibition by oxytocin would constitute a protective mechanism. This pilot study was designed to explore clinical evidence of oxytocin levels correlating to the skin’s appearance in subjects.
Methods: Oxytocin levels, facial photographs, and lifetime sun exposure questionnaires from six female subjects aged 48–61 years old were analyzed. A skin age score (SAS) was determined for each subject and was compared to the expected average SAS for each subject based on their age to determine a percentage in change, if any. A reduction in SAS would indicate more youthful appearing skin than the average person of that age.
Results: All subjects had at least some reduction in SAS score as compared to their expected score. An almost linear relationship of SAS reduction as related to OT levels was found, showing a correlation of more youthful appearing skin with higher OT levels.
Conclusions: This study links previously published evidence of oxytocin’s protective role against inflammatory cytokine release in the skin with clinical evidence of OT levels correlating with SAS scores. Furthermore, it shows OT is likely inducing a protective function in the epidermis in the case of sun exposure and possibly with intrinsic aging.

Haha, I understand perfectly what you are saying. I have the same opinion as you. I'm sorry that the young girls now don't understand this, and in every picture, we see them with their lips out, their lips full of botox and a very vulgar make-up. I will always choose naturalness, and this is what I teach my daughter. Light makeup is the best choice. It doesn't make you older, and you look like you're just neater. Some many videos and websites show you the steps to make your makeup beautiful and light. My favorite I found on a site. I hope that as soon as the girls realize that staying natural is the best decision.

I've noticed my skin has gotten better recently and one of the things I recently added was higher doses of Fish oil, so that may be another thing to consider.

It’s probably more important to cut all consumption of omega-6 “vegetable oils” (really industrial seed oils) that are common in processed foods. This is a better way to restore a healthy omega-3 to -6 ratio rather than trying to balance it artificially with lots of fish oil. Although I’m not opposed to fish oil in and of itself.

Paul Saladino, MD, talks about this a lot. Makes sense to me.

I agree, however I had already done that years ago, but I upped the fish oil recently and it may have helped my skin. Something has.

I wouldn't recommend taking any supplements or vitamins without consulting a doctor. It may be dangerous
How many doctors know anything valid about supplements? Has your doctor counseled you to keep your vitamin D over 50, and told you what co-factors to take with it? Almost certainly not or we (in North America) would not have a population severely deficient in Vitamin D, just to name one.. Any doctors who know this would have had to study it themselves since formal training not only doesn't include supplements, it incorrectly discourages them.

Please don't feed the spammers. It's the usual modus operandi: a new member with a polished avatar, foreign-looking name, and a vapid first post.

Edit: As predicted the individual went on to post vacuous spam, and then had the gall to object to being called a spammer.

My mom's friend also decided to buy special supplements for skin health, she started taking them and developed a very strong allergy. Then for a couple of months, her skin was in a terrible state. It's better to visit a specialist and get the right advice and recommendations. My mother went to [SPAM] and the doctor prescribed a supplementary complex of vitamins for her, which helped. So it's better not to joke about such things.
