Probably like most of you, I have not been to the local gym in 2 months. How have you adapted? what are you doing? and most importantly, did you go to shit or are you surprised at yourself 2 months down the line? My only form of exercise has been push-ups, pull-ups and some various light dumbbell exercises with weights of the 25 pounds. I just alternate days doing upper and lower body. Try to exercise 5-6 days a week in the mornings for like 1 hour. Workouts are not exactly super intense but I get a good pump. Not really going close to failure, just lot of reps. Ex: 5 sets of pushups and pull-up supersets will work ya even if you have to do 20-30 push ups at a clip and 10 pull ups each round. Anyway, I have been surprised that I really don’t think about the gym that much anymore. I’ve realized it’s gonna be a while and just adapted and do what I can. More surprising, maybe not, I haven’t really lost that much in terms of mass and muscularity. I’ve prob gained a couple lbs at most due to eating more crap but I am still in good shape. I really haven’t improved nor digressed much. Makes we wonder that maintenance may be pretty easy. I keep telling myself , all those years in the gym, was I doing too much? lol curious what you have noticed. Of course being in TRT helps.

I have missed going to the gym, but like you, with some maintenance work I don't feel like I have lost too much muscle. I am fairly trim and primarily a runner, so I wasn't that "built up" in the first place. Probably more of an issue for the more serious body builders.

Here is my beef: in my area (St. Louis), they are opening up the bars, casinos and marijuana shops, but not even the small gyms. I realize everyone is huffing, puffing and sweating at the gym, but come on. Put the same hygiene procedures in place and let some of the smaller ones open with capacity limits. Just ridiculous.

Great to hear..about your maintenance. One good thing from this quarantine is I’ve started to jog like 2-3 times per week since we don’t have any home cardio. That 2-3 mile jog is the hardest workout of the week for me lol. Regarding the opening, I am in Pa and the state is jacked with cases. No clue when gyms will open up. But after 2 months of this, folks are starting to get ancy. One day I am like F the Corona let me live my live the next day I am opposite and fine with the stay at home. It’s the great unknown.

I am relying on calisthenics . Burpees are my favorite exercise right now. So many variations to kick your ass... How can it possibly get boring?

Just posted this in another thread, but yesterday was my first day back on the iron in two months. I was pleasantly surprised to find very little losses. I was actually back sliding a little bit pre-covid due to over training, for example my bench was no longer progressing past 235 and I was moving down to 230 and 225 from time to time. I went in yesterday and just went straight to 225, thinking I'd be lucky to handle that, and proceeded to knock out three sets without a problem, actually felt pretty darn good. We'll see how the rest of the week goes, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

I’ve had a barbell, bench and dumbbells for years and have been using those. No issues at all and can hit all major body parts. I picked them all up from garage sales (or even people getting rid of them) and they work great. I have no time to go to the gym
(Except when doing business travel which I no longer do). So, in quarantine I’m doing my usual routine.

if I didn’t have space or couldn’t get that equipment - I would get a TRX and a kettlebell.

I lost 15 lbs in 2 months. 235 lbs - 220 lbs. the more glycogen you hold, the more you will lose. Comes back fast thiugh. Last year I was off 7 months due to an elbow injury. I regained everything back and even more in only 6 weeks back after.

My concern is big box gyms not enforcing the protocols for cleaning. They will have to invest in extra people to clean etc. You cant expect your clients to clean adequately, I have a studio 3k sq ft, and its alot of work keep it disinfected.

I only go to the gym for sparring, which I miss. My daily routine consists of isometrics and calisthenics, neither of which need any equipment/gym. Lockdown has increased my resolve and therefore intensity. I have experienced some improvements in this short time. Namaste.

Yeah. I am not sure what I will do when the gyms reopen. I’ll def go back but not sure if right away. I have memberships to Golds Gym and a chain of gyms called The Maxx Fitness Clubzz here in PA. We shall see. I’ll probably cave and go in the first week they open.

I'm a member of Lifetime Athletic... which I loved...but those gyms , on normal days are PACKED,,, hundreds of Cars in the lot at ALL times... theres no way that I feel confident that they can sanitize enough to make it safe...
Like I said, until theres a REAL vaccine... It's home gyms for me.

Lifetime for me too. I’m glad it’s open as I don’t think a covid vaccine is anywhere near ready and I’m not waiting for that. Hell I don’t even have a reliable Covid antibody test available to me.
