Morning wood on exogenous TRT

Was greeted by wood this morning (yes I'm bragging) and got to thinking: We know that testosterone cycles up/down throughout the day while we're still producing it naturally. And morning wood is an indication that it often peaks in the morning. We further know that on TRT the natural production ceases so all we have is what we add and that peaks and troughs depending on frequency, dosage, etc.

All that being said - why do we still have MORNING wood as if we were on natural production cycle?

For me, it's usually because I have to pee. Plus is good exercise for my penis.

A full bladder can press against and stimulate the sacral nerve.

It may have to do with how full the bladder is. Very seldom do I get up in the middle of the night to pee. So in the morning the bladder is full and I need to pee badly and have good morning wood. On those rare nights I get up to pee once or twice because of an urge I don't have wood when I wake up. Guess that may be because I released the pressure throughout the night. ???? Just thinking out loud.

For me I’d only get them if I had to pee, and also if I’m in a good enough state hormone wise that seems to lend itself to dopamine being higher. I’ve still mostly had zero morning woods on TRT though. Had one this morning, but that’s a very rare thing for me.

Its more of the thing of the circadian rythm and having optimal levels of testosterone is like a prerequisite but not what dictates the process. I also get morning wood, currently on EOD dosing I've also been getting it on 2 times a week.

I've wondered about this too.

Although it's partly speculative, the Wiki entry is worth reading:

The cause of nocturnal penile tumescence is not known with certainty. Bancroft (2005) hypothesizes that the noradrenergic neurons of the locus ceruleus are inhibitory to penile erection, and that the cessation of their discharge that occurs during rapid eye movement sleep may allow testosterone-related excitatory actions to manifest as nocturnal penile tumescence.[5] Suh et al. (2003) recognizes that in particular the spinal regulation of the cervical cord is critical for nocturnal erectile activity.[6]
Evidence supporting the possibility that a full bladder can stimulate an erection has existed for some time and is characterized as a 'reflex erection'.[7] The nerves that control a man’s ability to have a reflex erection are located in the sacral nerves (S2-S4) of the spinal cord.[8] A full bladder is known to mildly stimulate nerves in the same region.
The possibility of a full bladder causing an erection, especially during sleep, is perhaps further supported by the beneficial physiological effect of an erection inhibiting urination, thereby helping to avoid nocturnal enuresis[citation needed]. However, given females have a similar phenomenon called nocturnal clitoral tumescence, prevention of nocturnal enuresis (bed-wetting) is not likely a sole supporting cause.[9]

Went for several years without one. Since on TRT, just about every morning I have at least a chubby and many times full wood. At least I know I'm still alive!

It's more than a just about testosterone peaking, it's about getting restful sleep and nocturnal erections.
Saw this and had to chime in. I occasionally take melatonin as I tend to have an issue falling asleep initially. When I take melatonin and get that deeper sleep, my elections are clearly much more firm and last longer as I wake up. Very noticeable. If I don’t receive adequate sleep, I have a much weaker erection as I wake up to possibly soft. It’s like night and day.
It’s not just about peak testosterone.

Melatonin is a hormone secreted from the pineal gland and has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. Oxidative stress is considered as an important factor in the etiology of erectile dysfunction (ED), and in many experimental models, positive results have been obtained with melatonin treatment.

Agree with the sleep comments above. At my age (54), if I am getting good REM sleep in the morning hours, I have solid nighttime and morning wood. If my sleep is choppy and restless, much weaker EQ. Being on TRT and 3mg Cialis before bed also has helped.

Healthy hormones, quality sleep, and the addition of low dose daily PDE5i.....$$$

Aside from having a healthy vascular system and optimal hormone levels getting quality sleep is critical.

Of course, you can!

Although most would look at sildenafil as the on-demand pde5i believe it or not when taking tadalafil blood levels will reach the Tmax 0.8-1.2 hrs after you take it.

Top it off that the effects can last for 36 hrs.

Daily is the way to go and you will notice stronger/firmer/longer-lasting erections when erect and the penis will be fuller/plumper when flaccid let alone sensitivity/orgasms will increase due to improved blood flow and top it off that you will notice an increase in the quality of erections achieved during sleep NPT (nocturnal penile tumescence).

When you wake up in the middle of the night during NPT you will know what I mean.

Ones underlying vascular health will play a strong role in how well you respond to a said dose.

2.5-5 mg is the dose used when taking daily.

Many are using 5 mg/day but others may experience the beneficial effects when using a dose on the lower end of 2.5 mg/day.

Guys having to pee has nothing to do with it nor does it have anything to do with sacral nerves. Lol. the lumbar plexus comes out of the IVFs in the spine. And cialis surely helps dilate blood vessels. But any type of erection has to do with testosterone.

so the question still hasn’t been answered which I have recently been think about also.

As a counter to that, I get boners whenever I have to pee, particularly on cialis.
