I'm 46, and have been on TRT for about 8 years. I'll put my regimen below, but I'm pretty locked in for TRT, although 5 mg daily tadalifil doesn't always cut it.

Anyway, my bp has been creeping up over the years.

I've been on Lisinopril 20 mg for 10 years. But have been running 135/84 on average for a while.

Doc added hctz 12.5 mg.
My bp went UP

Now it's 137/97.

  1. Should I be concerned a diuretic is reducing blood volume, making hematocrit go higher?
  2. Since HCTZ doesn't seem like it's working, any suggestions on other bp drugs to add?
  3. Especially ones that are erection friendly?
  4. Has anyone had success with supplements for high BP? I take citrulline and was thinking of adding arginine. Anything else?

Testosterone Cypionate: 50 mg every other day
HCG: 50 iu every other day
DHEA: 25 mg /day
Tadalifil: 5 mg /day

Hemoglobin 15.9 g/dL
Hematocrit 48.9 %
Testosterone 993 ng/dL
Free Testosterone 27.5 pg/mL
Estradiol, S 61.4 pg/mL

I was on a combo Lisinopril/HCTZ for several years. I switched doctors to more of a naturopath MD, and he detests diuretics for BP because they also drain the body of important minerals like Potassium and Magnesium in addition to the sodium. He took me off of it and my erection quality instantly improved. (Diuretics are known to have ED sides). My BP also went up. I bumped my Lisinopril from 20mg to 40mg. That did the trick and I was right back down at 120/80 or below. I also take a number of supplements like Magnesium, plus 3mg cialis.

You can also consider an ARB which have a great profile when it comes to sides.

Lots of great threads from "Madman" on BP meds on this site. Let me know if you can't find them. (PS I am also on TRT)

You definitely want to address your blood pressure. Not some thing to mess with. I would have these conversations with your doctor. I doubt that supplements will make a huge difference when you’re lisinopril is not doing the trick.

There are lots of classes of blood pressure medication and finding one that works with minimal side effects can be trial and error. I am on a beta blocker. I use it for headache prevention, but it also keeps my slightly creeping up blood pressure under control. On the other hand, there are side effects such as fatigue and slight depression.

Again, I would have these conversations with your doctor and don’t be afraid of diuretics if there are no medical contraindications and if it is the proper drug. On the other hand, I would hate to have to go to the bathroom more than I already do!

I have found Bystolic to work better than anything! I take 10mg daily of the generic version which is new in last year. the Bystolic was $300 per month the generic is like $39. My BP was creeping up and just feel better on it. I am 59 and on TRT since 50.

I have been resisting taking blood pressure meds for some time now. My main reasons are both side effects and interactions with drugs / supplements.

My BP has been all over the place. I have seen a few days 3 months ago with 190/90-100? but 1 month ago 107/75. Those high readings pushed me into really taking action. After those two high readings I did take 1 BP med in my stash, triamterene/hctz, which really knoked it down for a day. (I tend to stockpile meds, I have quite a few antibiotics/pain meds along with a couple of different BP meds).

I tend to react strongly to stress.

Just before posting this my BP was 114/72.

For me, it's better to use a weekly 12 hour morning / 12 hour evening average. Using that, morning week 2 was 132/88, week 1 120/80, evening week 2 122/80, week 1 116/74.

I have found 1/2 teaspoon of gaba to be quite effective in lowing BP, but I take this 2-3 times a day. Also twice a day, aged black garlic.

My plan is to lose 20 lbs, so far I have lost ~5lbs. My BMI started at 26.4, now 25.4, I have been on TRT for ~12 years, my total T has been as low as 541, as high as 2000, though most of the time the high is 1400. Hard to tell as I use testosterone undecanoate (10-12 week for each injection) and it depends on how soon after an injection I care to measure. I was a little surprised that recently while my total T was ~650 my dht was 81 ng/dL 30-85 scale). My HCT is never very high, 48.1 is the highest I have ever seen it.

I am 69 years old and just this week started a full time job after 20 years of retirement. No idea how working will effect everything. I think it will make it easier to lose weight since I there isn't food around me all day long and I can't snack. The biggest change so far is having to be on a schedule and much less free time.

If losing weight and the supplements stop working, I guess I have have join the crowd and go on BP meds.

I like telmisartan, but I really just wanted to say you are truly blessed to be able to have that high testosterone levels with such lower hct and hgb. I'm jelly.

I've tried several BP meds with too many side effects. But now I'm using 50mg of Losartan. it's working for me with no side effects. As an added benefit it keeps hematocrit under control. A big plus for me, I don't do well with donating blood.

What dose of GABA do you use per day? I actually just purchased some in hopes of fixing some bad anxiety/BP issues

I take 1/2 teaspoon of gaba twice a day, in am and pm. I believe it also reduces anxiety and helps with sleep. I buy bulk supplements, so 1/2 teaspoon is about 1.2 grams. I have tried as much as a tablespoon, the effects don't change at all. My brother tried this, and it did not help him, though he is already on bp meds, many BP meds work on gaba, so maybe that is why it had no effect for him.

I also take 1/2 teaspoon of aged black garlic, it's reported it helps with BP.

My BP is at ~ 120/78, if I stop in a few days my BP will start to rise. I am also losing a bit of weight, when I lose more I will try and stop gaba just to see what happens.

Sweet, I actually just started taking 1g twice daily starting the other day and so far the effects are good. I get such an odd niacin flush in my head that last awhile but other than that I think I’m feeling more calm, I’ll report back after a few more days

I had some BP spikes here and there when I was on TRT. Diet, nutrition, lifestyle didn't work as I wanted so decided to try a few BP meds. Had a low dose Telmisartan and a low dose Nebivolol. Felt like complete death couple days I took them. Probably took Nebivolol bad time in the evening as has to be taken mornings or even post heavy workout, according to what I read online. Anyway felt absolutely fucked up right from the get go. Maybe you need time, etc, but to me, it makes little sense as well to take other drug to combat the side effects on another drug. Thats not the way to go in my book but to each their own. Supposedly big doses of multispectrum Vitamin K does the same thing only naturally. Lots of Vitamin-E and Magnesium from your diet if possible. Good electrolyte balance/Hydration. Good diet. Healthy BW, consistent workout routine and stress management incl sleep is essential. Some people do need them ticking every box possible naturally will go a long long way.
