Grapefruit is off the menu with Cialis

I started 2.5 mg daily this morning, AFTER I had a mango and grapefruit salad.

Cruising the interwebs it appears that was the wrong fruit salad to enjoy with Cialis. Apparently grapefruit is a no no with many drugs, including Cialis. It looks like grapefruit inhibits breakdown of the drug so it can heighten side effects before becoming assimilated. I use grapefruit for hematocrit. but 1.5 L of water daily seems to work just as well for lowering it. I'm feeling fine as of this afternoon.

Any experiences with this phenomenon are appreciated.

I found this information to add to your posting:

"Drinking grapefruit juice can reduce the pharmacologic effects of the drug and could even stop you from achieving an erection.
Grapefruit contains substances that are known to interact with the enzyme CYP3A4 which is found in the intestine and liver. This enzyme is responsible for the metabolism of certain medications, including Cialis. When you take medication, the body produces CYP3A4 and immediately breaks down the substance, releasing it slowly and allowing it to work at an expected rate. However, eating grapefruit can significantly reduce the amount of CYP3A4, causing decreased metabolism of this medication. This means that the Cialis stays in the body much longer than expected. The components of grapefruit juice can stay in the digestive system for up to 72 hours. If you consume at least a glass of grapefruit juice, you should wait for at least three days before you can take Cialis. "

Possible Side Effects
Eating grapefruit while taking Cialis can increase the risk of side effects that include:

Dizziness
Drowsiness
Headache
Nausea
Stomach upset

I didn't have any side effects so I should be fine. I remember my mother be restricted from taking grapefruit when she was on her blood pressure meds. Among other benefits, Cialis helps with blood pressure.

Thanks for the post.

Ah, IF you're on the "TADA"-lafil which I am assuming you are given your response. :) Shifting to mango and rotating navel oranges with papaya

I finally discovered 2.5mg about every other day is my sweet spot for Tadalafil. Any more and the side effects become unbearable (nasal congestion, reflux, and hiccups - bleh!)

Interesting because I have a 5mg script and a pill cutter to make it 2.5 mg. I experimented with mornings at 2.5 mg and had headaches so I have moved to evenings. With a 36 hour half life, I might follow your experience and experiment with every other day. I had spectacular results this weekend after only starting it on Friday last week.

As for the acid reflux, I dissolve a cut pill sublingually and I don't have any of the digestion issues. It really has no flavour at all, not like aspirin or acetaminophen.

Thanks for the input!

I know this is a old post but I had drank 4 oz of Grapefruit juice Friday morning then Saturday evening cut a 5mg Cialis in half and took it. Within 10 minutes I had a full erection that lasted 3 hrs without any stimulation! It throbbed like when I was a teenager! No more Grapefruit juice!
