Estradiol - Comparing ECLIA vs LC/MS/MS results

I recently had lab work and got the ECLIA E2 test. I know my results for both tests are "high", however I'm curious as to how any comparison might be made to previous tests that used LC/MS/MS.

Previous E2 labs using LC/MS/MS:

47.2 pg/ml (8.0-35.0)

Current E2 labs using ECLIA:

69.2 pg/ml (7.6-42.6)

Both are measured in pg/ml, however they use different ranges. If any direct correlation cannot be made, is it safe to say that my E2 went up?

It's too little data to say anything with certainty. If you assume you're statistically average then the ECLIA test is presumed to be only a few percent higher than the LC/MS/MS test. This would imply your estradiol has gone up. However, if you happen to have higher levels of C-reactive protein then that could be inflating the ECLIA result. On the other side, the LC/MS/MS tests are occasionally wildly inaccurate, far more often than the ECLIA tests, which are at least very repeatable.

These are all the times I’ve had both tested at the same time. As u can see, there’s no real way to answer your question. Sometimes the sens E2 is higher than the standard, sometimes lower. Ime, if u know ur E2 isn’t very low, I would honestly just go with and trust the standard E2 test. It seems a little more reliable, imo. The sens version is at higher risk of lab error.
