Here’s an interesting study indicating that contrary to popular opinion, porn use does not cause ED.

My story about anxiety. I've been locked in fight or flight mode for many years, a comorbidity of untreatable bipolar, along with a difficult, dysfunctional marriage. Been prescribed, at different times, prazosin or doxazosin, two old blood pressure meds used off label for PTSD because it was found they reduce activity of the sympathetic nervous system. But I've tried them at different times and response was nil...until a couple of days ago.

I used to take either one at night or near bedtime and no improvement in sleep. Two days ago, dealing with severe anxiety in my sleep and dangerously high blood pressure(caring for my wife who has early or middle stage dementia) I took 1 mg of doxazosin when I got up. Within two hours, the feeling of stress and anxiety greatly diminished. BP came down to way normal(114/74 to 125/75). By evening started getting semi-erections. Last afternoon/evening, I was experiencing increased libido along with sporadic strong spontaneous erections. Had several nocturnal erections, too. I'm also on daily T injections, IM, 10 mg. Doxazosin is known to improve erectile function in some men. Anxiety, I'm beginning to understand, can leave you MIA in bed.

Point being, if the sympathetic nervous system is dominant, in fight or flight mode, attaining an erection can be a no go. Turning it down with the use of this particular medication seems to be(emphasize on 'seems') allowing my erectile function to come back. As I stated, I'm taking doxazosin to relieve the overwhelming anxiety and dangerously high blood pressure. I can only hope that rebalancing my autonomic nervous system will also result in the return of erectile function.

EDIT: All those who promote 'No FAP' must have clogged prostate glands. I've argued online with some of those young men and they swear they have no prostate issues. Right. A doctor told me, years ago, that if you're not having sex, masturbate. "Your prostate will thank you and you won't need to come see me!"

When I was young I didn’t masturbate very much due to religious teachings. However I went through a long period time, years that is with frequent unexplained testicle pain. My urologist couldn’t find the problem. After getting married the problem pretty much went away. From the research I’ve done I believe the problem was pressure in the prostate from not ejaculating frequently enough causing prostate fluid to back up into my testicles causing pain. A well flushed prostate is a happy prostate. I still have prostate infections at least once or twice a year and my doctor recommended frequent sex as an aid for this. Such as it is, my wife and I have sex over 200 times per year.

How many men complain that their wife only desires or is only receptive to sex once a week? That's been the experience in my marriage when we had a love life. You and your wife are clearly a passionate, contented and loving couple. That's wonderful.

There's a lot of criticism for pornography in respects to its potential effects on how men view women, a man's expectation of sex and sexual technique, and its influence on his masturbatory behavior and consequential ED. What's hugely overlooked is the opposite-that men and women see men in pornography with raging, large, rock hard erections that go and go and go and go. And it seems to have created this perception that any sexual experience (particularly for young people) that isn't a perfect, porn like experience means there is something to blame and porn and masturbation is the easiest, most convenient scapegoat. The fact that the majority of human history existed before online porn and the fact that sexual problems, ED problems, sexual experience learning curves, etc.for young men, young couples, and married couples existed all along is never thought of. I think a lack of perspective and understanding of the history of human sexuality and function is grossly confusing and misleading people.

When I was young. I masturbated at least once a day and then when I got married. I had sex at least once a day. I was married 30 years with my first wife and we had sex at least 10,000 times during that time. Sadly at the age of 48 she died from cancer. But she sure took care of her man. I am married again but I don't have sex everyday now. It's about three times a week which is fine for me. She saw a study about prostrate and sex and told me we got to keep doing it to keep my prostate healthy.

I have never bought into those porn studies causing ED. Seems to me, there was a hidden agenda being pushed. Men have been looking at porn, in one form or another, or a long time. Granted, it is much more accessible now with the internet, but it's not something new. So many articles and "studies" these days seem to be geared towards shaming men in one form or another. Example: "Toxic Masculinity" and "Boys will be Boys is oppressive to women".
Masturbation and porn, like anything, can be done to excess, but I seriously doubt it causes ED in the majority of men.

I agree completely. As a gay male, I know of many men that have masturbated to porn all their lives on and off and have never had an issue with their sexual function, nor their ability to enjoy real sex with another person.
Sex addiction is a different issue and should not be confused with normal sexual behavior.

One of the funniest things concerning this topic is the gynocentrist view, that masturbation is ok as long as you are not watching porn, but at the same time it is not disputed that males are more visual in their sexuality. I see a lot og guys promoting this gynocentrist shaming. The logic behind it could be that porn, like prostitution degrades women but even more it reduces a females power over men.

Not everyone uses p*** when they masturbate. I never do. I just feel it takes too long if I would use p***. For me. It's faster to rub one off and then I'm done.

You make some good points. Gynocentrist shaming is a common tactic used against men. Take for example, women who say they don't need men, are appauded with a "You go Girl", whereas men who do the same, such as MGTOW, as labeled as losers and that this "toxic" male movement hurts women.

Yeah, also sex for women is very easy to get if they get horny, hooking up with a random stranger or asking a "friend" to visit does not hold a lot of shame, whereas a guy paying for sex directly is very frowned upon, even though getting to the sex are very different processes between genders.

I’m not really one for cleaning the pipe’s myself nowadays, sure when I was a teen I needed to belt off rope’s frequently… I’ve been with my wife for almost 30 years and I’ll rub one out if she wants to watch, she likes a good show and I think she has a thing for me nutting on her on. I’m not into porn because honestly my wife likes to do a lot of stuff in the bedroom that folks would see in it, none of the crazy stuff though. We have a lot of fun and it’s almost daily anyway, we’re pretty much free-use with each other. Now I can relate to anxiety and stress causing problems, this year has been very stressful and I’ve had problems on occasion, de stressing and hcg (getting sensation back) have been very helpful.

You're married to an emotionally healthy/sexually healthy woman! I'm envious of men whose wives don't have hang ups; where sex isn't conditional or used to manipulate.

What's your protocol, especially for HCG. I'm presently using 500 IU twice a week. I've been thinking about going to 500 IU every other day.

What’s ur goal with maybe trying to go 500iu’s EOD? What benefits are u hoping for?
I always wondered what would happen if I injected 500 IU of HCG every other day. I'm thinking of trying it next year just to see what effect it has on me. Positive or negative.
