arcticcat, you didn't have to go there at all, even intially? I would not be able to get there for the initial consult/physical like it states on their website. Is there a way around this? I'm also hoping that my insurance will cover it. Anyone have any issues with insurance?

I am switching to Defy as we speak and there is no need to travel there. Its all done via phone and email, and they are very easy to work with an professional.

I cannot speak to insurance though as I am out of pocket on this myself.

Hulk, after filling out the required ppwk you will need to get a physical form filled out by your GP or a local clinic. Once that is done you can request your consult. It is very easy and talking to Dr. Saya is very comfortable.. I have insurance, but I choose not to try and file it. Defy is very reasonable on both the consults, required blood work and prescriptions.

I get my Gp to request normal labs and have Dr. Saya request any others that he needs. I run what I can through insurance with GP and pay out of pocket to Defy. Having Defy as a resource is a great is worth it to me.

That's what I'm going to do. I've gotten all of the paperwork to them now I'm just waiting on my labs to come back so I can get that to them. I'll have to say the more I read and talk to others about this the more happy I am that I found this board and defy. It will be refreshing to have a physician treat ME individually other than cookie cutter protocols that I have been on for 4 months now.

HulkSmash, good choice. It just so happens I'm due a followup with my Gp and the confusion it has been with thier office just to get lab.orders and to scedule followup. Just yesterday I called Defy to refill a perscription and what a major difference, me and Matt has a conversation discussing this and how much different the two scenarios were. Now at my followup I try to educate my GP a bit more. And a followup with Dr Saya is complete opposite.

Great care by a team that treats you as important. Getting labs next week and they will go to my GP and Dr Saya. I feel it's a big resource for myself. My wife is now in the process of making some positive improvements herself.

That's great! See my GP is all about it, and she is excellent with providing and suppotreatment that works. My endocrinologist on the other hand is totally against it. As soon as I have my first consult and get whatever prescriptions he feels that I need, I'm giving the current Endo the boot.

I have a question for those that use Defy and other remote doctors...

If/when you have a medical issue and need to be hospitalized, or undergo testing, etc. for something unknown, how does Defy interact on your behalf? The scenario being that you have some complication as a result of HRT and you need to be hospitalized - since Defy isn't local, I assume they cannot admit you, making an emergency room visit a necessity, or getting your local GP to understand and work with the problem, either of which sounds difficult.

Anyone actually go through that, and how is it handled? I haven't seen anything really written about it, and I know most docs would make a best effort to assist, but when the rubber meets the road, what obligations are there, if any?

Thanks for any ideas/pointers...

I can't speak to the situation with Defy, but have been followed by other, out-of-town specialists in the past when I was living in an isolated rural area. There was no problem with them interacting via phone/email with the local attending on the one occasion I did need to be admitted.

I would think that you could call Defy and they'd be happy to answer your question.

I'm just discovering after investigating a change in clinic that Defy is nearly 50% less on meds than I'm paying now with another tele-med national clinic HRT program.

Nelson, I am most likely going to do a consultation with Defy. Your post mentioned that ExcelMale members get a discount on the consultation?

I notice Defy still wants to work with your PCP. Do you know of some good TRT docs in St Louis area?
