Was prescribed the 5 mg daily does Cialis but even with dosing as low as 1.25 mg, a negative side effect that keeps happening is a very noticeable heart rate increase up to 12 hours after dosing. This happens even if the dosage was taken every other day or every three days.

Doctor suggested to try Viagra (Sildenafil) to see if that might eliminate the racing heart rate side effect. Curious if anyone has any experiences with switching from Cialis to Viagra to deal with the increased heart rate side effect. If anyone has used both do notice this side effect with one versus the other?

I've never had a racing heart with either Viagra or Cialis. How much of an increase in heart rate do you have?

On one occasion i got an alert from my smart watch that my resting heart rate was elevated while i was inactive and reported it was 120 bpm. This occurred around 4 pm after having taken a 1.25 mg does of Cialis in the morning. Typical resting heart rate is about 85 bpm. Doctor said to give Viagra a try since even though it's also PED5 inhibitor they aren't exactly the same formulation and that Viagra may not produce the same side effect. Thus was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and didn't have the issue with Viagra. Also, I'm wondering if the much shorter half life of Viagra (4 hours) compared to Cialis (17.5 hours) might eliminate/reduce the heart rate side effect.

I don't know if this will help?

Sildenafil was approved as an effective agent for treating ED in 1998, and its cardiovascular effects have been studied in great depth. It has a half-life of ≈4 hours (Table). In 1 study of 8 volunteers,12 80 mg of intravenous sildenafil reduced systolic blood pressure from 131±12 mm Hg with placebo to 122±13 mm Hg (P<0.001) with sildenafil. Diastolic blood pressure fell from 71±12 to 64±11, respectively, but heart rate did not change significantly (64±10 to 66±14 beats/min; mean±SD). Jackson et al12 gave 8 healthy male subjects 100, 150, and 200 mg of oral sildenafil. The mean maximum reduction in supine systolic/diastolic blood pressure was 10/7 mm Hg at 3 hours after dosing, with no difference in the 200-mg versus the 100-mg dose. In most subjects, blood pressure returned to baseline within 6 hours. The authors did not observe a significant orthostatic drop in blood pressure or increase in heart rate in the standing position. Sildenafil, as expected, reduced vascular resistance.

Vardenafil was the second PDE5 inhibitor to come to market in the United States, and it was approved by the FDA in 2003. It has many similarities to sildenafil; in fact, its molecular structure is very similar (Figure), and they share a half-life of ≈4 hours. In healthy volunteers, vardenafil caused a transient reduction in supine blood pressure with a mean maximum decrease of 7 mm Hg systolic and 8 mm Hg diastolic. Maximum reduction occurred between 1 and 4 hours after dosing.19 A 20-mg dose of vardenafil resulted in a mean maximum increase in heart rate of 4 beats/min.

Thanks for sending that article. Interesting enough the study also included tadalafil (Cialis) and mentioned "heart rates were not significantly different from those with placebo" thus I'm wondering if one has the heart rate increase with one PED5 inhibitor if it will also occur with the other. Doctor said that while Viagra and Cialis are "cousins" they don't have the same molecular structures and half life which is why he suggested to try Viagra. Interesting enough the majority of posts I've read seem to indicate people have had less side effects on Cialis vs Viagra. Looking to hear to what other experiences others have had.

Something else is the problem. I take 20 mg daily. Nightly heart rate in the low 50’s. Your regular resting heart rate is too high to begin with. 85 is too high.

Dude really need to go to advanced cardiologist, if resting HR is 85 there could be some serious blocking already. Study says folks with resting HR above 90 may have less number of years to live rather than those who is in higher 40 or 50s.

Get serious study such as Nuclear scan or so.

Again taking such a dose is overkill!

Pissing your $$$ out the window.

The dose for on-demand is 10-20 mg (maximum).

The dose, when taken daily, is 2.5-5 mg and some may choose to run up to 10 mg (far from common).

Most men are started on 5 mg daily.

Some may end up dropping down to 2.5 mg daily if sides become unbearable.

Even if one chose to take a dose of 10 mg daily the blood levels achieved would be equivalent to taking an on-demand dose of 16 mg!

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Once-a-Day Dosing of Tadalafil 5 mg and 10 mg in the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction: Results of a Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

*Historically, tadalafil has been taken on-demand at doses of 10 or 20 mg. The ability of a drug to reach steady-state results from the frequency of administration relative to half-life. The 17.5-hour half-life of tadalafil makes it an ideal candidate for once-daily therapy because steady-state plasma concentrations are attained within five days of daily dosing, and exposure is approximately 1.6-fold greater than after a single dose [11]. If 5-mg and 10-mg doses are taken daily, a cumulative tadalafil plasma exposure equivalent to on-demand doses of 8 mg and 16 mg, respectively, could be achieved in a few days

*the efficacy and tolerability of 5 mg tadalafil taken daily appear to be comparable to the efficacy and tolerability of 20 mg taken on-demand or every other day.
Further studies that address this comparison could be useful for clinicians

CIALIS® (Tadalafil Tablets)

CIALIS for “On-Demand” Dosing:
The recommended dose is one tablet (20 mg) before sexual activity, as needed. You should NOT take more than the prescribed dose of one CIALIS 10 mg or 20 mg tablet per day. The 10 mg and 20 mg doses are not recommended for continuous daily use.

You can engage in sexual activity within 30 minutes of taking the tablet and up to 36 hours later. The amount of time CIALIS takes to work varies from person to person.

CIALIS for Once-a-Day Use: Treatment of ED: Your doctor may recommend that you take one tablet of CIALIS (5 mg or 2.5 mg) Once-a-Day every day, at approximately the same time each day, regardless of when you are planning to have sex.

Treatment of BPH and ED/BPH: Your doctor may recommend that you take one tablet of CIALIS 5 mg Once-a-Day every day, at approximately the same time each day.

Just a quick fyi, when there's too much tadalafil/Cialis in your system you may experience vision issues, hard to read and red eyes. The fix for this is adding more Lutein supplementation.

Yes need to agree to careful with Cialis as the half time is much longer.

To clarify went back and look at my smart watch data and the 6 month and average resting heart rate is around 75. No issues on recent EKG. Will look into following up with a cardiologist.

Can you clarify if you are taking 20mg of cialis or viagra? checked my smart watch data again and looks like the year average resting rate is 75 not 85. Will need to follow up with doctor to see if thats a clue to another issue.

Little late to the thread but low dose daily cialis also raises my resting heart rate. Mine is usually around 56bpm on daily cialis it’s around 75-80. My heart is in perfect condition 39 years old.

I would say there is a strong chance it's underdosed.

No one in their right mind would need/use such a dose when using daily!

Even then it is far from common that anyone would need/use 10 mg daily.

Still not understanding how this works?

Throw some of that chedda your pissing out the window our way!
