Blood Pressure Spiking

Good morning. Thanks for all of the great information I get from this site. Everyone here is great for sharing life changing information. I’m a 56 year old man in good shape for any age. I’ve been on trt injections (cypionate) and clomid tablets for about 6 years. The past year or so my hematocrit level has risen to 57. I’m currently donated blood twice to help lower the numbers. Now I’m noticing that my blood pressure is consistently high. I’ve never had blood pressure issues before. My T levels are always 1000 to 1200 which I feel is too high. My doc says not to work. The dose of TRT I’m taking is 90 administered in splits of 50 and 40 twice a week. Does any have any suggestions?

Thank you very much.

You could try daily injections. It hasn’t worked for everyone, but it has worked for me. I haven’t needed to donate, for over three years now.

I'm 42 and there are some things that I've tried that I think work to lower BP. My BP comes and goes with work stress.

-Magnesium
-Cialis/Tadalafil
-Garlic & vitamin C (gave me bad anxiety)
-Potassium (for water retention)

I had mild hypertension prior to starting TRT (runs in my family). Fortunately, TRT did not increase my BP. It certainly can be a side effect. I try to keep my T levels around 600-800, so that might help. I am on 20mg Lisinopril with good results. Like UFC Guy, I also employ:

3mg of Cialis daily
1500 mg Citrulline
Garlic & Vitamin C
Nightly Beetroot powder

All of these NO boosters have helped keep my BP below 120/80 and erections strong.

Don't ignore the spikes, they can lead to long term hypertension. Are you taking your BP at home with a good digital cuff?

Thank you for the input. My t levels are higher than I’d like. I’m thinking of going to daily injections. I didn’t know that Cialis can help with BP.

Terrible anxiety!!! I couldn't figure out what was causing the anxiety until the guy who I work with was doing the same thing with garlic and vitamin C and he told me he was getting anxiety bad. It may be the large dose of garlic? or the combination of the two together? Not sure, but I had to quit that regimen.

But Vitamin C on its own doesn’t give you anxiety?

Im asking because I believe I’m having issues with high doses of Vitamin C.

I'm not sure. I took them together so I don't know. It was like 1000mg vitamin C and I can't remember the garlic dosage but it was stout as well.

Maybe vitamin C alone could do it. I'm not sure. You can stop taking it and see if it goes away...then take it again to see if the anxiety comes back.

Yeah, I’ve done that test once before; stopped the C and slept fantastic, but when I started again, it took about a week or 2 to notice the sleep issues again so I wasn’t sure it was the C. I’m just having a hard time believing that vitamin C causes me to wake up at 5am no matter what time I go to sleep. lol

I think supplements, especially at a high dose could have all kinds of effects. Everyone is different so everyone reacts a little different. Who knows, maybe it is affecting your sleep. It's not that crazy to think it might.

Hi @Steven. It might not be related to your BP problem, but taking Clomid while on TRT is a bit unusual. Why do you need the Clomid? If it's for fertility purposes, the far more common/safer choice is HCG.

Thank you very much for replying. My doctor put me on clomid about 6 months ago when it became harder to get HCG. I’m not planning on having children so do I really need the clomid?

I would say no. I've not heard good things about Clomid from many people. If you're not having kids, I'd recommend dropping it. Less stuff you take the better. Maybe just try testosterone by itself for a while and see if that works. Then adjust after 4-6 weeks if that's not working for you.

You can easily check to see if the Clomid is doing anything for you. Just have LH—luteinizing hormone—tested. If your doctor won't do it then get a requisition online through discountedlabs.com, lef.org, etc.

For most guys on TRT, Clomid by itself is useless. It does not prevent the strong negative feedback from androgens at the hypothalamus. LH typically stays close to zero.

Back to your T question: lowering your dosage, more frequent injections and getting your total T peak under 1000 might help both your hematocrit and BP. When I started TRT 5 years ago with once a week injections, my hematocrit went up to 52. I am on 3X per week and lower dosage, I average around 46.

And yes drop the Clomid.
