The beta-blocker, Bisoprolol I found is responsible for the majority of my erectile dysfunction after reducing my dose by half. I have tried Cialis and Viagra, the moment they start working, something happens and they cease to do anything.

If I reduce my Bisprolol by half, erectile function and strangely glucose levels improve dramatically, however blood pressure worsens. My GP wants me to try Hydralazine 25 mg twice daily. Hydralazine doesn’t belong to any of the type of blood pressure medicines at the bottom.

I want to compile a list of blood pressure medicine or non-pharmaceutical options, other than the one’s I’ve already tried, in case Hydralazine doesn’t work for me (a plan B).

Blood pressure medicines I’ve tried without success:
ACE Inhibitors
Calcium Channel Blockers
ARB’s/Losartan

Has anyone else had good results with Hydralazine?

Have you tried combining a calcium channel blocker with a low dose potassium sparing diuretic ?
No, but I have tried a channel blocker before which sent me to the ER with painful rashes and burning in the skin.

I can’t take any medicine that makes me urinate more than normal, I’ll easily become dehydrated.

This morning I took my first dose of Hydralazine, did get some burning in skin on and off, but I’m starting to feel pretty good.

Does anyone know why some BP medicines cause burning in skin?

I would look into Bystolic (nebivolol). It is a 3rd generation beta blocker, is far superior to any of the previous generation BBs, is neutral or beneficial on lipids, glucose and insulin sensitivity, and is the only BB that produces endothelial nitric oxide. I combine it with Mycardis (telmisartan) which is an ARB. Both of these antihypertensive meds have many vasodilative, cardioprotective and nephroprotective benefits. Neither of these drugs cause ED and Nebivolol is either neutral or beneficial for ED. I take 5mg Bystolic and 80mg Micardis daily and have had zero side effects.

There are plenty of blood pressure meds that are NOT beta blockers. Beta's shut me down hard. I will never take another one. All of the "sartan" meds are not beta blockers. I am on candasartan with no issue. Why any doctor would prescribe a beta block to a male is beyond belief.

after having a rough time with telmisartan, the s/x subsided within a week.
feeling good now. start at 20 not higher, you can bump once you adjust
i think telmisartan is one of the better out there.
i have clonidine as needed, this is fairly well tolerable, has good reviews, but getting of is hard.
hydralazine i got too. it works, but studies are not positive. it stops working fairly quick
losartan gave me awful anxiety.
my goal is to stay on telmisartan, maybe bump it to 40mg and if needed add terazosin to the mix, which also is well tolerated and has added benefits (although not good for ED)

For me, propranalol has been the only medication to reduce anxiety and BP. Chills me out. Low dose; 10 mg once or twice a day. Prescribed by my psychiatrist. Does nothing for my sleep. Maybe dose dependent. I've read reviews where people are taking up to 160 mg daily, in divided doses. With my wife ill and with our sex life gone for 13 or 14 years, when the time comes to get back in the game, I'll use Trimix.

Between bipolar, C-PTSD and my wife's worsening Alzheimier's I need to have a medication that keeps me from being emotionally overwhelmed without effing me up during the day. Finding ANYTHING that works with few, if any, side effects is huge.

Good news to report, day 2, I notice unusually hard elections upon waking which continued on day 3.

There is definitely more feeling and activity down there!

My blood pressure was 168/87 on days 2 and still had great erections. Now on day 3 blood pressure is continuing to drop.

The beta blocker kept my heart rates low, I could never get my heart rate 95> bpm when working out intensively and felt like my redline was set low.

Now I’m able to get my bpm to 138 or higher with ease, for the first time in years I actually sweat when working out. The workouts feel more intense and feel higher quality.

I originally talked to my doctor about Nebivolol and it’s not covered by my insurance plan, doctor said it’s very expensive and any medicine with a diuretic effect causes electrolyte imbalances.

If you can't get brand nebivolol via insurance you can try getting it via the Abbvie Patient Assistance program for 0 out of pocket or getting it cheap as a generic since that is now available.

I take Bisoprolol for tachycardia. I'm going to get my doc to change to Nebivolol since you can get it in generic now. Can get 30 tablets, 5mg at Publix through GoodRX for $12 bucks or 10mg for $12.69.

hydralazine has the shittiest reviews of all of them
also
Given hydralazine’s stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, it consequently leads to tachyphylaxis and tachycardia. It is sometimes given with a beta-blocker or diuretic for better patient tolerance

I got this prescribed at 2x100mg in addition to telmisartan 20mg. no way i will keep taking this. this drug has little chance of long term success

This has been an interesting thread for me to read. I've struggled with different BP meds for about a year now. So many adverse reactions. And many did little to bring down my very high BP. I also had ED issues on beta blockers, but settled on Nebivolol as well. My only complaint is that I have no stamina on the tennis court. I play 3X per week and I have to stop in the middle of games and sit down to catch my breath. If anyone has stumbled upon a BP regime that works, and allows one to be active in athletics, please let me know! Of course everyone will react differently to the same meds, so there are no guarantees that what works for one will work for all. FYI, I never tried any of the "sartans."

Beta blockers keep heart rates low, so if you’re an active person, don’t go on a beta blocker.

For a little while, I was on beta blockers. First propranolol, and then nebivolol. Supposedly nebivolol is associated with less side effects. But, I still had considerable fatigue and fairly heavy depression on both of these.

Transitioned off and now on candesartan. I take bp meds primarily for headache prevention and not really blood pressure, but I do like that they keep me in the normal range.

I still occasionally use a small dose of propranolol if I’m feeling anxious from something in my TRT regimen. It actually seems to work fairly well for that.

I’m aborting Hydralazine due to headaches and bloating. All the benefits, improved erections seem to disappear after adjusting to the medicine. I tried increasing the dosage and switching to 3 times daily.

Anyone tried Terazosin, an alpha blocker, for BPH and high blood pressure.
