I guess micronized DHEA worked for you as well LOL!

Me too...

Cut back to 50 mg in the morning of DHEA, that's all you need.

It's okay for this lab to well over the reference range as long as you do not have elevated E2...which you don't.

Did you get IGF-1 tested?

I bet that's high as well...which would be a great thing in fact!!!

BTW if you go to the LEF article and click on the "RELATED ARTICLES" tab there are a number of other articles on DHEA. I am NOT pushing LEF DHEA, but LEF does have some interestig studies and articles on the subject.

Gene,

Have not checked the IGF-1 yet. I am below top range as identifed by LEF and feel good where I am at. Will stay here for a bit and see what happens. I was crashing after lunch prior to the DHEA and I feel a lot better and no afternoon crash like pre DHEA. Am also less tired when I get home. I will add a bit more AI to see if I can nudge the E2 down a bit more. I was on 0.15mg anastrozal every 3 days. I will do a once every 3 days, once every 2 day then back to the 3 day and 2 day schedule and see where that gets me.

Orrin, I just re-read this thread and I am curious if the micronized DHEA you are taking is the same as what Gene recommends (McPherson Labs) or something different? I have used LEF in the past.

McPherson has the best product as they are both pharmacy grade, ultra micronized, slow release formulas which is ideal for our purposes.

LEF's product is outstanding as well and both are micronized but not slow release nor do I believe they are pharmacy grade.

The few extra bucks for McPherson's product is worth it IMO.

Jeffrey,
YEP... McPherson.

Gene,

Just noticed that Dr.Rouzier top range is 600 and LEF is 490. Appears that Dr. Rouzier is a bit more positive on DHEA.

Hmmmmm I have room to grow:)

My dhea-s level went from 89 to 187.3 (71.6-375 labcorp range) in 60 days using Natures Plus dhea spray. One spray 8 am one at noon.

Regular tabs worked for me but not as well as sub lingual spray.

After reading this I can see why it works and I love the idea of sublingual administration as it bypasses the digestion and liver process.

The double-patented Liposomal delivery system is a breakthrough in the administration of natural supplements. As a result, Nature's Plus is pleased to announce the introduction of a great new product, DHEA Lipoceutical Spray. Nature's Plus has micro-encapsulated the highest quality, pharmaceutical-grade dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) with the Liposomal delivery system to produce DHEA Activated Microsphere Spray. By combining DHEA with Liposomal technology, the miraculous health benefits of this sensational new supplement can completely bypass the degradative environment of the stomach.

Gene,

The spray is great. Each spray is 12.5 mg of dhea. One a.m. and one after lunch totales 25 mg per day.

Around $18 for 2 ounces. Approx. 80 sprays. at vitamin shoppe online.

100mg micronized DHEA morning and - 50 mg - evening and 50 mg micronized Pregnenolone in the morning
Total “T” – 821 – (348 – 1197)
Free “T” – 18.4 – (6.6 – 18.1)

I have some DHEA from another supplement company and Iwill start on that for 30 days after I finish up all the McPherson DHEA. I willkeep at 100mg AM and 50mg PM with 50mg Pregnonolon. Will see if there is averifiable difference in quality, etc.

I feel O.K. at this level with no noticeable issues.

I will not push the envelope past this point:)

Just noticed a typo on my part.......

100mg DHEA in the AM and 50 mg in the PM is what I am on now... NOT 100mg AM and PM...

IMO, you have some GREAT looking numbers!!! 2.24% on the free test, you have your serum in a nice range, and you have obviously made excellent progress on your E2, which was in the teens not too long ago.

Just from a curiosity standpoint, I'd really enjoy knowing how your cortisol and thyroid sits. Not that there are any alarms going off, but again, just more curious than anything.

Good stuff, and thanks for keeping a log!!

Don't get the Pregnenolone lab test...they are expensive and wildly inaccurate even the new urine panel.

Gene, can you tell us how to determine whether we are correctly dosing Pregnenolone? My doctor has me on it in the hopes that it will bring up moderately low cortisol levels in the afternoon (my cortisol drops rather quickly between waking and noon). Like you, he says that the Preg lab test is of little value, so we will look at the 4 pt. cortisol test after 8 weeks of Preg supplementation to see if it gives me a little bump in cortisol.

I am on thyroid meds now. Might do a check and see how the DHEA and Preg is impacting me. Might do that on next run of test when I try out a different supp company. Never done a cortisol test.

Below is from a presentation that Dr. Neil Rouzier, M.D. did at the National A4M Conference last year. I think he's one of the top minds in anti-aging medicine today. Note his administration (dosing) and his optimal levels for DHEA!

DHEA Supplementation
Dehydroepiandrosterone: DHEA
As presented by Dr. Neal Rouzier, M.D.

DHEA is a hormone secreted primarily by the adrenal glands. It results in a shift of a catabolic state to an anabolic or protein building state.
· It reduces cardiovascular risks by increasing lipolyses (decrease visceral fat).
· It stimulates the immune system, restores sexual vitality, improves moods, decreases cholesterol and body fat.
· It improves memory, increases energy, and has anti-cancer properties by enhancing the immune system.
· It is an endocrine precursor to other hormones, prevents immuno-senescence, loss of sleep, osteoporosis, atherosclerosis.
· DHEA reduces insulin requirement
· Adrenal hormone anabolic vs. catabolic metabolism
· Restores immunity
· Prevents osteoporosis, increases bone density
· Prevents cancer in lab animals
· Prevents diabetes & heart disease
· Decreases visceral fat
· Improves mood & well-being
· Improves energy & memory
· Slows aging process in lab animals
· Prevents lipid peroxidation = antioxidant
· Endocrine precursor to T.P.E.
· 7-keto DHEA is not a precursor to other HRT = avoid
· Neurotransmitter (recently discovered)
· Presently pending FDA approval for Lupus (Prasterone)

Clinically substantiated uses of DHEA include replacement for:
· Low DHEA levels
· Chronic disease
· Adrenal exhaustion or corticosteroid therapy
· SLE
· Improving bone density
· Improving depression & mood disorders
· Enhancing immune response by activating T-cells
· Improving well-being
· Decreasing cardiovascular risk
· Improving erectile dysfunction
· Anyone over 40
· DHEA has never been shown to reverse the aging process
· Nevertheless DHEA is important for preventive medicine
· DHEA inhibits synthesis of thromboxane A2, reduces plasminogen activator inhibitor, and tissue plasminogen activator – all decreasing platelet aggregation and ischemia.

Administration:
Men<200lb: 50mg AM
Men>200lb: 75-100mg AM
Women <50yo: 10-15mg AM
Women >50yo: 25mg AM

IMPORTANT:
DHEA Serum Levels
MEN
· Range 100-600
· Optimal 500-600

WOMEN
· Range 50-300
· Optimal 200-250

Higher levels in women predispose them to side effects – therefore stay low.
· Monitor monthly until optimal
· Assure correct dose and compliance
· Measure DHEA-S and not DHEA
· Side effects: acne, hirsutism
· Tx: Lower dose or take QOD Spironolactone 100 mg/day
· Contraindicated in sex hormone responsive tumors – breast, ovarian, uterine, prostate
· Conversion to T.P.E.?
· DHEA raises testosterone levels in women slightly, yet not in men
· DHEA raises estradiol slightly in men

Indications:
· Over age 40 for health protection
· Preventive medicine and well-being
· Symptoms of aging, mood & depression
· Cause the medical literature suggests it if we want to live longer, happier, healthier

Orin, you have my curiosity peaked even higher. If you find a chance to put a thread (or have one) together in the thyroid section, would enjoy hearing about your treatment program, labs, & the meds you're on. NDT or any thyroid medication for that matter is even more of a reason to make sure your cortisol is where it needs to be. I'm waiting on my 4x saliva kit as we type ...
