So I have been reading a lot about whey protein lately. It's a staple in my diet and I'm sure for most of you, so why not know the most you can about what you're consuming? I found some shocking information about the popular brands that are putting out a product that is sub par for the consumer. It's a disgrace how some of the big companies are getting away with giving you very little protein, and filling it with different chemicals, carbs, fats, etc. which is NOT the reason why you decided to purchase whey protein int he first place. I did for three months try a good whey protein. I have read that it can raise your A1C and fasting glucose and it did for me. I stopped using it and now I supplement with bone broth, both my A1C and fasting glucose now are in an excellent range.

Combining whey with a whole meal containing soluble fiber and healthy fats will lessen the impact.

Most use whey post workout along with a high g.i. carb source (if not following low carb).

Some also mix 50/50 ratio of whey isolate/micellar casein mind you one could just drink milk/chocolate milk which natuarally has a ratio 80% casein/20% whey mind you milk contains lactose.

For individuals not worried about consuming carbs chocolate milk (2-3.5% fat) has been shown in studies to be a great post work-out protein source!

I have been using Grass Fed New Zealand Whey Isolate from https://www.canadianprotein.com/grass-fed-new-zealand-whey for years and Canadian Protein is one of the best bulk protein sources in Canada.

They deliver to the US but not sure if it is cost effective mind you shipping is free in Canada/US when spending $99.

There are only a few plants in the world that manufacture Native Whey protein sourced directly from milk and not cheese (majority of whey on the market).

It is slightly more expensive than most whey from cheese but there is no comparison in taste as I have used whey for over 25 years and once you try a native whet from milk the taste is clean/hint bland milk (unflavoured)............never experienced such a clean taste!

If you have your shakes with a whole meal containing soluble fiber (vegetables/lower g.i. complex carbs- barley,beans/legumes,oatmeal,sweet potatoes, yams) and add in some healthy fats it should lessen the impact on your glucose response.

In my avatar I was eating high carb 500 grams/day, higher protein 200-250 grams/day and low fat 30 grams/day (fish and hemp oil).

i was eating 5 meals a day and believe it or not I was not eating any meat and as all of my protein mainly came from whey isolate 200 mg/day from drinking 1 shake (40 mg whey) with each meal and I was able to get extremely lean as my body fat was well under 10%................mind you genetics plays a big role in how muscular/lean an individual can get and of course a clean diet along with a good training protocol.

By the way this was pre-trt when I had low/normal t levels which seems unreal but as much as having healthy testosterone levels can improve ones body composition there are other factors involved in muscle growth aside from just testosterone.

Also instead of comparing per/lb................choose bulk amounts 25 lbs and apply any discounts in cart than you will see what choice would offer the overall cheapest price/lb.

I never buy 1-2 lbs...........always 20+ lbs as there is usually extra discount when purchasing bulk.

Unreliable source why do you think most ice cream has a lower gi...............due to the added fat.

Skim milk will always be absorbed faster than whole milk.................egg whites are absorbed much quicker than whole eggs due to the fat.

Depending on sources some do show skim and whole milk having similar g.i. but I would think a majority of the insulinogenic response would have to due with the bcaa and lactose.

One thing I gave up years ago was drinking milk, I can't believe they advertise it does a body good. I know one thing it's a good way to increase estrogen.
