I'm 55 years old. I had to halt TRT after a couple years (15 cc every two weeks) per my doctor I due to high hematacrit. My bad, as I was working out of town and did not donate blood. So I donated blood, double reds. 6 or 7 weeks now without an injection. My labs from a couple weeks ago report hematocrit at 51.4 (doc wants them back under 50) Total testosterone 105, (291-739) Free testosterone 2.4 (4.3-30.4)

Feeling decent as far as strength, energy, and mood so far. Labido decreasing but functional. My main concern for the immediate future is maintaining my physical strength because my job is very physically demanding for the next few weeks. Before TRT my legs felt like lead when trying to hustle on the tennis court. My easy chair felt too good back then and I could stay for hours in blissful rest. I'm starting to get that feeling again. Incidently that same bloodwork showed my white blood cell count was high 12.3 (4-10) I assumed I had developed a cold but now I'm thinking I have a sinus infection because of the high white blood cell count and I've been fighting it for 3 weeks. That might be the cause of my tiredness as of late.

My doctor seems a little spooked due to the recent hullabaloo in the medical community about TRT and my high hematacrit. I told her about donating blood for high hematacric and she seemed unsure. I told her I had read some of the literature provided here from Dr Chrysler and referred this site (thanks Nelson Virgel) to her. She took me very seriously but since I had to go off my flomax and cialis for urine flow last year due to side effects I've had a UTI or two and she wanted a urologist to examine me for basically all of the above.

At my urologist appointment the Dr basically said TRT was way over prescribed and the FDA was probobly gonna' put the kabosh to it. He said he would not deal with high hematacrit by donating blood. Basically said the prevailing symptoms we I experience are signs of getting older. His bottom line is he wants me to wait 4 weeks to get my blood work done again to let everything settle out to see where I'm at. Ordered me a ct scan for my plumbing at the same time in case there is an underlying cause to my uti's. Gave me a script for a new urine flow type drug. See him again in five weeks. He will make a decision.

So I'm disapointed to say the least.

Options: Wait it out for 5 weeks and start from ground Zero, with or without TRT

Cancel my appointments with the new urologist and find someone who specializes in TRT

Give myself my normal dose of Test cypionate because my hematacrit is normal by now and continue to donate blood and work with my doctor. I have about a two month supply I just picked up from my last script.

If I hold out for 5 weeks I'm hoping my body will begin to produce some of its own testosterone soon. I have a cpap that I have worn fairly religiously and I'm getting it fitted for a new mask so I will be cranking that baby up again after some time off for repairs and jumping through insurance hoops. Conventional wisdom suggests it may help but I have my doubts. Read here that it might not make a difference.

Also I take 60 mgs Simvistatin for high cholesteral which is now in check. I have also always had favorably low blood pressure. I've been in good physical condition and pretty fit and active and enjoyed good health and vitality this year up until cold and flue season around thanksgiving when I started fighting a few bugs but have managed to keep working.

Bottom line. I still have young active kids and it is a priority for me to enjoy a robust sex life with their mother. I have a very physically demanding job and I need my strength and youthful vigor to survive and thrive.

I would like to hear any and all suggestions. I appreciate the support.

This has to be a typo right?

What dose were you taking? 15cc is a volume, not a dose.

Elevated Hematocrit can be managed on TRT and all well trained TRT Practitioners know how to do this.

You're HPTA suppressed now and you won't start producing on your own; you need a PCT restart protocol and your Physician should know this...if he doesn't...you have the wrong Doctor...which I suspect anyways.

Yes, my bad, thanks for pointing that out. 1.5cc every 2 weeks

This explains why you're labs didn't look good, that's an insane protocol. Injecting 300mg of testosterone in a single dose will raise any man's hematocrit value...as well as estradiol, testosterone, RBCs, etc. That's not a safe TRT protocol.

I'd suggest finding a doctor who understands TRT better than your last one. A much more reasonable starting protocol would be 100mg every week. That dose can be titrated up or down if need be.

That is an enormous dose of testosterone, one that will send your system into chaos. That said, Hydranted is exactly right: you can overcome this problem with a doctor who understands the appropriate TRT protocols. A lot of us had to work hard to find the right doctor/the right treatment plan, you can recover from this.

Your Doctor is committing malpractice.

Amazing that Doctors who took an Oath will prescribe with no known knowledge whatsoever.

It is a good thing that your urologist is looking into the cause for your urinary track infections. Did he take a sample of your seminal fluid to look at it with a microscope to detect white blood cells? Did you get the ultrasound (I think you meant ultrasound, not CT) test?

Without knowing what your baseline T was before TRT and how long you were on and off testosterone, it is hard to say when your TT will get back to baseline. It takes weeks sometimes.

Both doctors are not very educated on what has been happening with the FDA.

Read this thread, specially the last post. The FDA has found no evidence of increased cardiovascular risks with TRT. All they want is for companies to prove that TRT increases libido and erectile function. So far, all companies needed to do is to show that their TRT product increased testosterone blood levels. They did not look at quality of life end points. I actually agree with the FDA on this decision.

It is hard for me to tell you to go against what the two docs tell you. All I can say is that if it was me, I would dig deeper on your UTI and high white blood cells while I would remain on TRT.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Thanks for the link Nelson. The urologist did not take a sample of my seminal fluid for examination, only a urine sample.

I am in the process of locating some different medical options in my local area to help me through this due to everyone's advice in this thread. I think somewhere around here I saw some posts about interviewing potential Dr's about trt. Thanks everyone again. I will keep you posted.
